Spent four days here with my teenage son and it was difficult to leave. Spectacular views, fascinating decor, wonderful art, an excellent location - and Isabelle whose helpfulness and hospitality seem to know no limits. Fabulous!

I read a review on Conde Nast about La Maison des Artistes and made a last minute booking not knowing what to expect. I was delighted with my choice; the place is bursting with Moroccan curios, art work and has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Isabelle is a wonderful host, she gave great recommendations on where to visit, where to eat and shop and nothing was too much trouble for her.
Guests can enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking the ocean and have the benefit of being so close to everything the Medina has to offer.
I left LMDA with some wonderful memories and will definitely stay there again when I return to Essaouira.
Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Each room has it's own individual charm but if you can get a room on the terrace go for it!

La Maison des Artistes is a great place if you like a bohemian touch to your lodging, without lacking the small touches of luxury/special attentions. Isabel, the owner is very attentive, helps with anything needed from dry cleaning, to serving an excellent, in the majority organic breakfats on the terrace to helping with local bookings of hammams and restaurants. When you arrive you might find the stair cases a bit surprising, you need someone to help you carry your luggage up the stairs. But when you wake up in the morning, to the sound of the seagulls, and you see the place you´ve booked you´ll be delighted as the days pass by. I highly recommend La Maison des Artistes, for a truly Essaouira experience. Extremely clean, interesting with loads of artistic pieces across the property, perfect location. wifi - just as good as it gets in Morocco, and great breakfast. The best of all: Isabel who is frankly speaking adorable!

Room Tip: Terrace but, the rooms I saw without terrace were BEAUTIFULLY decorated

Quirky and artistically decorated with many surrealist pictures, sculptures and objects d'art .
Isabelle is an excellent host; always interested and keen to be of help. Going out of her way to make life easier and organise any trips.
We loved our time there, the loft was superb with panoramic sea views. It felt like an artists eyrie....flooded with light and perched high above the town.
All staff were lovely and helpful.
Breakfast great .

Reading previous reviews and looking at photographs of 'La Maison des Artistes' we were feeling excited about our stay. When we arrived we were overwhelmed by a strong smell of musty cat pee and a hotel that was clearly in need of a good clean! Everything looked dirty, the whole place smelt terrible and the furniture tired and worn.

The room we booked was called ' Patio - Venezia' so we were expecting a room with a patio...instead we had a room with one small skylight and no windows...which also smelt of cat pee. The room was very expensive for Moroccan standards but this was not reflected in the quality of the room.

We had booked 2 nights at the hotel but decided on our first night there that we would leave a day early (even though we would be charged), we didn't want to ruin the short time we had in Morocco in a place that made us feel so uncomfortable.

The breakfast should have been fantastic - fruit salads, eggs, bread...but all served sitting on dirty sofas in a dirty living room...so really unappetising.

The owner was pleasant but this didn't make up for the standard of the hotel.

We have stayed in fantastic riads and hotels in Morocco for much cheaper than 'La Maison Des Artistes'. This hotel is dirty and in need of renovation, not worth the money!
