Essaouira Medina is a colorful, fascinating place to visit. It is filled with wonderful shops with no too pushy assistants, an abundance of fabulous restaurants, amazing Atlantic views, a working fishing port & many amazing Riads hidden behind big doors in lots of alleys.

This was one of the highlights of our trip, although we’ve had so many. A seaside resort city along the Atlantic coast. The Médina of Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was a bit different as the shop keepers didn’t hassle you as much as other areas. It’s known for its unique Thuya wood which is spectacular and only found in Essaouira. There are artisans and craftsmen practicing their trades and there are wonderful restaurants, cafes and bakeries that you can enjoy. It wasn’t as big as most Medina’s and not as crowded as it is about 2 hrs from Marrakesh. If you are able, I would highly recommend this area of Morocco. Make sure you try the pomegranate juice sold on the street. It’s luscious.

Forts provided good views of the sea,and background on their history. I climbed cannons to take amazing photos. Eating fresh fish whilst being targeted by stray cats and sea gulls was an experience. Lots of and sea view restaurants and good shopping, make sure you barter.

This is an old trading port going back centuries, and today has many local fishermen. It is also a site for tourists to visit as it has great character. Many local shops, and streets which are busy but not crowded. A lovely place to visit

You must go to Essaouira to experience one of the best parts of Morocco. Medina has less pressure to buy . Le Cle de Voute 76 Rue Laalouj ,by city wall, in heart of medina, is one of the best restaurants .
