Without doubt one of the friendliest hotels (if not the friendliest) we have ever stayed at; from the moment you step into the impressive entrance hall, the staff go out of their way to make sure your holiday here is memorable and thoroughly relaxing. We stayed in the 'Nirvana' section of the hotel, having been given an upgrade, and the staff there made it their business to get to know your names, your likes and dislikes.
As someone else has commented my only observation regarding the rooms in this section is that they are in need of a facelift, a tropical climate and air con. does have a very wearing effect on wall coverings, sealants etc. But they are clean, well cared for and spacious, with good sports and entertainment channels available on the wide screen TV. I understand a refresh is due, but until 'Starwood' have their other hotel (The Grand Mauritian) restored after a sugar cane fire last year then Le Meridien will have to take all the bookings.
La Faya restaurant is attached to this section of the hotel and we took most of our meals there, again staff attention is excellent and the food is super. The menu changes every day and gives you a choice of three starters and main courses with a la carte alternatives for the main course, the wine list is not long but has a choice of about six wines in white or red, these start from about £25 a bottle. Nearly all the wine is imported from S.Africa. The local 'Phoenix' beer on draught is wonderful at the end of a hard day in the sun!! We also ate in the 'Shells' restaurant which has a larger menu range and an impressive open kitchen. Again the food and service was excellent.
We did not use the 180 buffet restaurant which is used more by families and is not what you would call a peaceful environment in which to have a quiet meal,,,ideal for families with young children though.
During our stay we had three trips out with Taxi Mauitius (Destination Soliel) to various parts of the island including a catamaran visit to Ile Aux Cerfs. For private days out they were excellent and very reasonable, about £75 for a whole day out around the island. Try and leave the hotel if you can it is a very scenic and quite dramatic island. The market at Port Louis is very atmospheric and full of character.

Room Tip: The Nirvana wing is quiet with its own pool, but no children under 12 are allowed in this section. T...

We stayed here for 4 days, not long, but enough because of not so good beach. Nirvana section is private place far from main building. Room was clean, ample and chilly, without air-conditioning you feel awful dampness. If you want to swim in the ocean you need special footwear. We chose beautiful pool. The stuff was very friendly. Food was good. And excursions to different places of island were interesting. Summarize my view the hotel is very good, but...))

We stayed here last year, around August and it was lovely. The hotel is very big and lovely, this was by far, one of the best breakfast's that I had. A wide selection of food, bread and all types of food. Loved the Asian infused restaurants and the creole food. The rooms are clean, the staff are lovely and wonderful. They helped a lot. The language can be a bit of a barrier but, it's all good. Mauritius is a small island, we hired a care for two days and, we just drove. We probably covered more than 200 kms of the island which was amazing.
The only problem is that the hotel is situated on the rocky part of the beach so, swimming in the ocean was hard because of the rocks. The weather was tropical and, being winter there, you could not even feel one day of cold. The hotel service really deserves the 4 star status.

Room Tip: The Nirvana wing is luxurious and quiet.

If u get the right personal to service you, your experience will be super. Make sure u get the welcome packs.

Request rooms close to the main hotel or reception and make sure its on the Ground floor as this will allow u to have access to the gym, spa, boat house, bar etc without u having to walk a kilometer to and from your room. If u can afford the all inclusive, take it!

Staff are overwhelmed or overworked and tend to get snappy or say "just wait" a lot.
U can sympathize with that but its not what u paid in the package, so don't stand for that. Once they see u a no nonsense type of person, the smiles and service immediately surfaces.

I am still awaiting to get the manager to call me to discuss the leaky ceiling outside the room and most of the ground floor walkway, broken handles, and no welcome packs, incomplete rooms and lack of service.

Take your own snorkles and flippers (complete set) and water shoes is a must!!! Seen to many ppl wait for gear and too many sea urchin injuries ( a gr8 way to end your holiday before it started)

If u like the a la Carte menu, u can have la Flaya at Nirvana (nicer) or the Shells situated on the beach, but u get more if u go to the buffet at the 180 degree restaurant (more food, more desserts and more helping) but remember, almost £4 for a can o coke...

There is a convenience store up the road (leading to the hotel) where u can purchase all your beverages etc and store in your fridge for consuming without any issues.

I think there are lot more hotels which are closer to the airport that offer more bang for your buck on the east and south east corner of the island.

All in All, if my family and friends were not staying with us at this hotel, it would not been that pleasurable, it would have been just a white sandy beach with stoney beach and the rest is optional extra.
