This is the best place to stay in Mauritius if you want to be pampered while you are on holiday.
The property is awesome and the staff is excellent. They make you feel like a VVIP
The food is too good. If you are a sea food lover -On the Rocks is the place to try some.

Take some splendid scenery, a composing atmosphere, peerless facilities, a plethora of affable staff and distinctive food then mix them all together and you get The Oberoi Mauritius .
We had an absolute ball and are wholly rejuvenated by the experience.
Recommended for the languorous, romantic soul.
Kudos to Dhiren and his outstanding team, praise in particular for Amanda, Preety and the staff in the shop to whom I sincerely apologise for all those trousers that I tried on before going back to the first that I said looked far too big.

Room Tip: A room with it's own pool is a glorious thing to have

The whole atmosphere and ambience is created through the actions of ALL the staff who obviously enjoy and engage with the 'Oberoi' culture which makes the stay truly special. Celebrations of family events are memorable and made really special through room decorations, cakes, champagne and attention by your staff. Everything from facilities in the lodges to the surrounding grounds is outstanding. The 'treats' of chilled water, fruit kebabs, ice creams are welcome distractions as are the varied water activities available.
Tips: opt for the half board option - the menu and quality of food in the restaurant is fantastic but the cost of wine is expensive by UK standards. This is a one hotel experience as there are no local restaurants within easy reach and taxi fares are expensive for further afield. Car hire for exploring the island is highly recommended and is easily organised through reception.
The Oberoi, Mauritius definitely has the 'WOW' factor!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review our resort on this forum. We are sincerely delighted that you experienced many "Wow" moments during your stay with us. Thank you for all your lovely comments on the product and services on offer.
I would like to advise all guests that Mauritius, as an island, imports almost everything used over here. This includes wines which attract high customs duties. We are also the closest hotel to any nearby restaurant in comparison with other 5 star luxury hotels on the island which are far more isolated. The taxi fares are determined by the unions and the hotel has no control over the same.
Thank you once again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to our resort in the near future.
Best regards,

We have stayed at nearly every Oberoi resort in India and were consistently impressed by the standards that this high-end luxury resort offers. We therefore also chose Oberoi for our vacation in Mauritius.

The Oberoi Mauritius should be an example for the excellence that every 5 star resort should strive for. Although the resort seems to attract mainly couples and honeymooners, the resort staff were exceptional beyond words in their kindness towards the little toddler we were travelling with. They showered her with more attention than we had ever expected. This may not mean so much to those travelling without kids but it is to demonstrate that no one big or small is ever cast aside by the staff in this resort. The hotel staff remembered our anniversary and our toddler’s birthday and placed so many nice, thoughtful notes and gestures along our 2 weeks stay to ensure our family holiday was memorable. Pritam was very knowledgeable with information on where to travel around Mauritius. Neha’s smiles, follow ups, sincerity and affection towards my family are unforgettable. However, writing only a few staff names for recognition is almost rather unfair as all the staff are of high caliber. The staff operate on a close knit team spirit basis and it shows. You feel the General Manager’s presence around the resort to ensure that everything is of the highest standards. As busy as they should be, the Oberoi staff are open to your feedback and make time to genuinely greet you. Each family is made to feel that they are the most important which is not the easiest to do when the hotel is almost at full occupancy. This resort staff made us feel like family, not guests. They don’t wait until something goes wrong to make you feel special.

Often a hotel’s housekeeping team is ignored but this resort’s housekeeping deserves all the praise for ensuring that each day’s room service and turn down service were in order. The ambience of the resort, the amenities and the room design are of high-class quality and up-to date standards. The resort’s amenities such as the boutique, spa, and dining restaurants are not so wide apart that it takes an immense amount of time from your room to get these places. Based on our experience living in other massive spread out resorts, this was a big plus for us. The breakfast menu offers so many fresh, delicious and local/international cuisine options that even after a 2 week stay, we were not disappointed by the menu selection. If you are considering the pricing of this hotel, bear in mind several complimentary water sport and other general activities which will eliminate the need for you to incur extras on entertainment and will provide for a more enriching cultural experience (e.g. glass bottom boat tours, snorkeling, henna painting, sculpture classes, wine/rum tasting, star gazing, painting classes, etc.).

We have travelled extensively globally and know quality when we see it. This hotel deserves all the favorable credit it is due. But no comprehensive review of ours can do this place justice. You will need to experience it yourselves to believe it.

We will continue using Oberoi on our future visits wherever our journeys take us. Thank you, Oberoi!

General tips:

Oberoi’s location: Oberoi’s sheltered north location allows for sunny skies/ more rain free days than you would have elsewhere on the island. If you think Oberoi is far out from civilization and therefore you would need taxi ride/ transportation etc. to travel outside the resort, please note that this would be more or less the same with any of the other 5 resorts on the island. We personally travelled to other parts of the island where other 5 star resorts were positioned and in our experience, it would have been no different were you to stay at other similar resorts in Mauritius. Keep in mind that the resorts have to be situated further out of civilization to give you the pleasure of being in an oasis. If you like riding bicycles, you could easily visit the nearest Arsenal/Pointe Aux Piments village with a lot of ease from The Oberoi.

Restaurant food in the resort: The pricing is reflected in the service and quality of the food. The ‘On The Rocks’ chef who has worked at Oberoi for 16 years personally greeted us at our table while dining. There was a live guitar player/music entertainment as well. The restaurant offered unparalleled beach views. The service staff ensured in every way that the food and dining experience highly satisfied us. When you look at absolute pricing on the menu, try considering that you are paying for whole package, rather than what you should have paid if you were outside Mauritius or in another local restaurant in Mauritius.

Mauritius as a nation: Don’t compare it to your other exotic island visits. Finding lizards or other insect life is inevitable in tropical climates. Mauritius is an island where most goods are imported so items will not be of a cheap value. Fisherman and locals in resort beach waters are not bothersome. They give you a flavour of real life and culture. You are in their Mauritius. Be open to accepting this is a beautiful and special country in its own ways. Most people here speak at least 5 different languages and if you can appreciate the history and cultural diversity this country offers, you will be able to overlook any little shortcomings that you may find in this island or inside any of its resorts.

Room Tip: All rooms are in a quiet location and have at least partial sea views.

We loved staying at the Oberoi in Mauritius. The room we stayed in was beautiful, with its own chairs and lounge out the front overlooking the ocean and a gorgeous bathroom with a private garden area next to it. The grounds were beautiful - really well kept and it felt very private. The staff were a real highlight of our stay here - every single one was always friendly and helpful and we especially appreciated that they chased up our lost luggage with the airline and had it delivered to our room the next evening. We loved sitting on the beach near the pool with water and snacks delivered to us, and the delicious rock bar menu. We tried stand up paddle board (complimentary) which was very fun and did a yoga class at sunset in the beautiful garden (also complimentary). My advice is to book your dinners in advance! We really liked 'On the Rocks' for dinner (which you need to book) and many nearby restaurants were also booked out in advance when we tried to make a reservation the same day. We hope to be able to visit again!
