“Fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

Beautiful hotel, beautiful location.
We were met on arrival by the customer services manager Rajoo who informed us we had been upgraded to a junior suite (benefits of being a Gold card member) which was really nice after a long flight, but then he got really annoying by making out that he had personally given us all the benefits rather than them being the standard Hilton gold member perks!
The hotel is beautiful and very well kept. Superb buildings and gardens.
The beach is a little small but still very nice, I just wish the hotel could stop the guests from putting towels on the loungers early morning to claim the sun loungers. We watched dozens of loungers unoccupied for hours at a time but with towels laid out on them so no one else could use them! Lots of free amenities at the beach as well which was great.
The room was immaculate and was maintained that way every day by a lovely lady named Sabita, thank you Sabita for all of your hard work, your dedication to your work and Hilton as a brand was highly commendable.
Restaurants – “La pomme d' amour” is a buffet style with plenty variation not always my cup of tea but plenty of it. The only thing I would say is the quality could do with some improvement, perhaps less amount of dishes may improve the quality?
A minor bad point in “La pomme d' amour” has to be the waiting staff, both servers and greeters. They could really do with some polishing of their skills, especially their moods! Having spent time in other hotels on Mauritius there is something missing about the waiting staff here, I can’t put my finger on it but they do not have that “5 star” approach!! ! Having said that they do work hard and work long hours and of course they were not all bad!! Stars of the” La pomme d' amour” have to be Smithin and Maria, always smiling always courteous and always took the time to chat to the clientele.
We ate at the "Ginger Thai" restaurant a couple of evenings, extra tariff but well worth it, chef Khun Shulinta did a wonderful job, our evening was only slightly marred by a really miserable waitress ( I won’t name her) who I continually asked to smile and even that did not work! She improved a little on our second visit but for such an important restaurant you need a more cheerful waitress! Rest of the serving staff were great.
Cocktail evenings for Card holders was a great touch. We got a chance to meet the team and express our views as well as just have a really pleasant hour discussing Mauritius. We met the Executive chef Rocco and the General Manager Dominic, both really down to earth approachable people and a real pleasure to spend time with. Gina from sales was extremely nice and helpful, even offered to have the gardeners trim the trees outside our room as they were blocking our sea view!
Special thanks to Xavier the waiter who never left me with an empty glass for more than a couple of seconds!
We found nearly all of the staff extremely pleasant (other than the minor problem previously mentioned). The Customer service girls (we only found out one name Thia) were unbelievably helpful as were the room service guys, housekeeping… actually all the departments were great unfortunately too many names to remember.
The location is also superb. Local bus service is right outside the gate and will take you into Flic en flac for 13 rupees or the Cascavelle shopping centre for 22 rupees. I mention the prices because unfortunately on one of the buses we had a dodgy conductor who tried to rip us off for 120 rupees by trying the language barrier but as my wife is French he failed miserably. Taxi drivers will also try and rip you off but if you barter with them you can do ok. Hotel has a guide on what prices you should be paying.
All in all a truly classy hotel with very minor problems. The beauty about this hotel is the people listen to the problems and try to do something about it straight away.
We had a superb 14 days and look forward to returning in a couple of years

Room Tip: If you take a junior suite ask for a one with a sea view AND a roof on the balcony, a lot of them do...

We booked Hilton for our stay here from 20-26 May & were deeply impressed by the hotel.Firstly a good package designed by Antilog Vacations , a Mauritius wholesale dealer. They recommended this hotel with few other choices & gave us cheaper than listed rates. We had a close call between 2-3 similar category hotels and this hotel & we selected it based on better reviews

If you’re at sea the first thing you will sea is a beautiful white sanded beach with few trees on the shore. Many buildings cropping up with thatched roofing’s which is followed by a lot of greenery and then beautiful mountains cropping up in the background. One look at this hotel & you know that you have arrived at a beautiful place at Mauritius.

Another advantage at the hotel is that is located close to the airport. So in case you have urgency you can travel back immediately. The airport here is sir Ramgoolam international airport. Another worth while place near the hotel is the Casela nature park. All this are very close to the hotel & is a good way to spend your time if you like sight seeing.

Just like all other 5 stars the hotel has it all fitness centre, spa, swimming pools, banquet facilities. So it depends on you choice. The spa is one of the most talked about things at this hotel. Handling all 5 elements of life earth, water, fire and air, this spa created a unique experience in the mind of all travelers. The fitness center and swimming pool are excellent to enjoy. The banquet hall can accommodate up to 300 guests.

The rooms start at the deluxe category and go up to the junior suite. All rooms have attached bathrooms & internet facilities. The deluxe room has king beds and twin beds. The guest can choose their bed type. The rooms are pretty spacious at around 43 square meters. The suites are classified as corner, deluxe, junior, presidential, senior suite. All suites have a seating access with sofa. The suites are sized at 61 square meters. Has a beautiful seating area...The attached bathrooms are made of marble which looks very grand.

This hotel is easily among the best & budget pick for Mauritius

We are a thirty-something couple and we stayed half board at the Hilton for three nights in May (end of summer/beginning of southern winter). We only have three negative things to say:
1. the price of the drinks (expensive), massages (very expensive) & wifi (about 60€ for 24 hours);
2. the position of the spa right next to the building containing the generators - a very noisy place to "relax";
3. The omnipresent flies (at breakfast, in the spa garden, around the pool). I'm not sure if the same flies were following us around, or if each area had its own population).

Despite these problems, we were really not disappointed with the hotel. Here's why:

-The staff were fantastic. Always there when you needed them, friendly, smiling, chatty but professional.

-The food. The main restaurant offers a buffet and every night has a different theme (e.g. Italian, Oriental, gastronomic, Indian.) If you don't fancy the buffet, there are two other restaurants to choose from (a pricey gastronomic restaurant and a Thai). Breakfast is served from 7-11 is excellent too.

-The beach and gardens. Great little beach, soft white sand, beautiful lagoon. No seaweed. The gardens are amazingly well kept and lovely to walk around in.

-The evening entertainment. Great singers and bands. Good shows.

-Activities. Sailing, kayaking, mini golf, tennis, dolphin cruises, pedalos, etc., which are of course all included.

-The room. Very comfy king-size bed, big TV, quiet air-con, ceiling fan, clean & modern bathroom. Some nice touches on arrival (I won't spoil the surprise).

The Hilton is, I suppose, a guarantee that you'll get a good level of service and quality. It's not cheap, but it's worth it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great!

This is a great place to stay in Mauritius - highly recommend it!

Yes the drinks are a bit expensive but if you hit happy hour it brings the prices back down to what you'd pay in a major city bar or club in the UK.

Suggest you buy sea shoes and a snorkel in advance as this is a great way to see the reef which is near the hotel.

Although the beach is small it is beautiful and the sea is out of this world.

Staff at the Hilton cannot do enough for you - our cleaner went above and beyond what you would normally expect - even cleaning our sea shoes! Thank you Bridgette!!! (Room 2095).

Food is good - lunch better than dinner as food cooked to order. However, the buffet had different food every night. Recommend you go full board plus as you get 2 drinks with lunch and dinner.

We stocked up at Heathrow before the flight and bought soft drinks at the local Spar and sat watching the sunset on the balcony.

Visited Flic En Flac one night - but preferred to stay near the hotel as the facilities are so good.

Also recommend Walking with Lions and Tigers (the Tiger stole the show).

Overall a great holiday - would go back again soon x

Room Tip: Tip - book your trip independantly in Flic en Flac rather than through rep or hotel

I stayed there for a week with family and we had a blast. There are entertainment at night time and the food is amazing! We had buffet breakfast and buffet dinner with a lot of different choices-quantity didn't compromise on quality. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of water sports and land sports to keep one entertained or just relax in the beach or by the pool. The weather was picture perfect which made the stay even more memorable. If you want a relaxing holiday, this is the place to go. It is not as close to the town centre as some other resorts but if you want fine white sand... this is the place to be! Besides, the island is fairly small, travel time is only extended due to traffic jam. Overall I would highly recommend this resort and do get a massage and a facial! It is pure bliss. It is on the higher end of the market budgetwise but if you can afford that extra touch of luxury, it's worth coming back to your busy life all rested.

Room Tip: Garden view or ocean view rooms are better than the ones closer to the swimming pool as it is a bit...
