This is a great place to stay in Mauritius - highly recommend it!

Yes the drinks are a bit expensive but if you hit happy hour it brings the prices back down to what you'd pay in a major city bar or club in the UK.

Suggest you buy sea shoes and a snorkel in advance as this is a great way to see the reef which is near the hotel.

Although the beach is small it is beautiful and the sea is out of this world.

Staff at the Hilton cannot do enough for you - our cleaner went above and beyond what you would normally expect - even cleaning our sea shoes! Thank you Bridgette!!! (Room 2095).

Food is good - lunch better than dinner as food cooked to order. However, the buffet had different food every night. Recommend you go full board plus as you get 2 drinks with lunch and dinner.

We stocked up at Heathrow before the flight and bought soft drinks at the local Spar and sat watching the sunset on the balcony.

Visited Flic En Flac one night - but preferred to stay near the hotel as the facilities are so good.

Also recommend Walking with Lions and Tigers (the Tiger stole the show).

Overall a great holiday - would go back again soon x

Room Tip: Tip - book your trip independantly in Flic en Flac rather than through rep or hotel

I stayed there for a week with family and we had a blast. There are entertainment at night time and the food is amazing! We had buffet breakfast and buffet dinner with a lot of different choices-quantity didn't compromise on quality. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of water sports and land sports to keep one entertained or just relax in the beach or by the pool. The weather was picture perfect which made the stay even more memorable. If you want a relaxing holiday, this is the place to go. It is not as close to the town centre as some other resorts but if you want fine white sand... this is the place to be! Besides, the island is fairly small, travel time is only extended due to traffic jam. Overall I would highly recommend this resort and do get a massage and a facial! It is pure bliss. It is on the higher end of the market budgetwise but if you can afford that extra touch of luxury, it's worth coming back to your busy life all rested.

Room Tip: Garden view or ocean view rooms are better than the ones closer to the swimming pool as it is a bit more private. Less traffic of people walking past your rooms. I also liked the top floor rooms as it had an amazing view.

Overall the Hilton in Mauritius is a wonderful resort with fantastic staff and excellent facilities. The boathouse and watersports were my personal favourite. The patience and helpfulness of the staff at the boathouse impressed me no end.

My only disappointment with the hotel was the absurd prices of drinks and food, even being fore-warned by previous reviews it got to a point where it starting ruining my overall experience. To give an example: the cost of a day long boat trip (not arranged through the hotel) including hotel pick up, shuttle right across to the other side of the island, food & drinks and then a return shuttle is equal to the price of THREE beers at the Hilton! My wife and I went on a full day Catamaran trip including snorkelling, on board BBQ, drinks, dolphin watching and of course a hotel pick up and return....all for less than the price of the previous evening's hotel dinner!
My advice for visiting this hotel:
1. Enjoy the amenities, even have a few drinks and meals at the hotel but certainly don't limit yourself to this.
2. The bus service was very reliable and starts right next to the hotel, this was the find of our holiday and without a doubt the best way to get around the island. The bus is literally a fraction of the price of the taxis.
3. Despite all the hotel literature advising against, use the local tour organisers. A short bus ride (for 10 rupees/person) into Flic en Flac and you have a whole host of operators to choose from again at a fraction of the price of the hotel concierge.
4. Use the restaurants on the Flic en Flac beach road, better food, better people and better prices!

We arrived in Hilton Mauritius after spending an adrenaline pumped trip around Africa. Needless to say when we arrived there, we were exhausted and in a dire need of a good dose of relaxation. Overall, the service in this hotel was excellent, unfortunately the WIFI does not come free with the room (which is a pity, considering that this is a 5 star resort) and the prices for the spa treatment is so ridiculously expensive, we decided not to try any of the treatment there. We love the water activities that comes with the room booking, we had a lot of fun and was quite sad to leave the friendly staff there. I am quite impressed that everyone managed to remember us by our names, considering that there are so many rooms in the hotel!

We recently enjoyed 10 days on the island and stayed at tooth the intercontinental Grand Baie and the Hilton and the flies at the Hiton where disgusting. The beach area is small which results in an overcrowded situation. When compared to the intercontinental, the food was of a better quality but variety was rather limited. The service was also below what is expected of a 5 star hotel. The hotel staff where friendly, but seems there were not sufficient waiters at meal times. Finding a snake in the room at 11pm and then watching hotel staff dismantle cornisaces to try and catch the snake, and never once thought that moving us to another room was unfortunate.

In summary, the flies all over you while you are eating in the dining area and constantly around you while on the beach and pool area was shocking and out us off returning to this hotel again.
