“Much needed relaxation”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

We arrived in Hilton Mauritius after spending an adrenaline pumped trip around Africa. Needless to say when we arrived there, we were exhausted and in a dire need of a good dose of relaxation. Overall, the service in this hotel was excellent, unfortunately the WIFI does not come free with the room (which is a pity, considering that this is a 5 star resort) and the prices for the spa treatment is so ridiculously expensive, we decided not to try any of the treatment there. We love the water activities that comes with the room booking, we had a lot of fun and was quite sad to leave the friendly staff there. I am quite impressed that everyone managed to remember us by our names, considering that there are so many rooms in the hotel!

We recently enjoyed 10 days on the island and stayed at tooth the intercontinental Grand Baie and the Hilton and the flies at the Hiton where disgusting. The beach area is small which results in an overcrowded situation. When compared to the intercontinental, the food was of a better quality but variety was rather limited. The service was also below what is expected of a 5 star hotel. The hotel staff where friendly, but seems there were not sufficient waiters at meal times. Finding a snake in the room at 11pm and then watching hotel staff dismantle cornisaces to try and catch the snake, and never once thought that moving us to another room was unfortunate.

In summary, the flies all over you while you are eating in the dining area and constantly around you while on the beach and pool area was shocking and out us off returning to this hotel again.

We highly appreciated the early ckeck-in (at 9.00 am instead of 2.00 pm), especially after travelling for almost 24 hours. We also enjoyed the welcome cocktail and refreshing towels we were given upon arrival.
The room, the garden and the hotel overall looked so much better than in the pictures. The rooms are spotless, the garden is splendid and very well kept.
Breakfast is great, lunch on the beach was not so varied but good, the dinner buffet was excellent (something different every night, some nights were thematic), including live cooking. All drinks are rather expensive but this is to be expected in such a resort, especially when there are very few other options in the area. There are some restaurants outside the resort, but there is a distance of approximately 3-4 km to the nearest supermarket or restaurant.
Complimentary coffee, tea and water available in the room was very nice.
Wireless internet or internet in the room is very expensive (e.g. wireless internet/1 week ~ 300 Eur) but there are 3 computers in the lobby where the internet is free.
The beach is also very well maintained, water is very shallow but deep enough to take a swim along the beacons.
They have such a numerous staff but we didn't even feel their presence, plus they were always smiling and so very helpful when needed.
The entire atmosphere was so peaceful and we enjoyed total relaxation!

Room Tip: Avoid top floor rooms without roof terraces/balconies because these balconies cannot be used in case...

from the minute we arrived we had 5 star treatment. Escorted driver with cool drinks on arrival. The hotel at front of desk was quick and we were shown to our delux superior room, where there was stunning a view, it was breath taking. The gardens were kept spot less. The garden staff working long hours. The restaurant was a really good choice of food. Theme nights every evening. If you wanted, cocktails and nibbles at 630pm every evening. We both like to watch the staff light the oil Burners at night by the main reception leading down to the ocean. The sunsets here are out of this world. The water sports are fun and the spa really great for the whole experience. My husband arranged for a romantic dinner down on the jetty. The jetty was transformed with lights, table with private menu and butler service. Wow, what a surprise, just for one evening I felt like a super star!. The walk along the beach and sipping champagne will be a memnory that will last forever. If you want romance, the sound of the sea, and the peace of this country and people, please visit. You won't regret it I promise you.

Room Tip: Delux superior first floor.

We stayed in the Hilton Mauritius on our way to take a cruise to Capetown. We arrived late at night after traveling for 2 days from the US and felt like we had arrived at Fantasy Island. It was dark when we arrived and we were amazed when we woke up to realize that our room (we had been upgraded to a 2 room suite) was directly on the Indian Ocean - probably only 20-30 feet to the beach.

When we arrived they had palm fronds on the bed that spelled 'welcome' and a beautiful scarf for my wife and a polo shirt for me. In addition there was a fruit plate and wine. What a place!

The only negative is that we did not know this would be one of the highlights of our trip and so had only book one night - bummer. No way to extend the stay since the ship was leaving that afternoon.
