A beautiful hotel in Mauritius. Staff are very helpful & friendly. The Italian resturant is lovely, Staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. If i had only one thing to say it would be after a 12 hour flight over night and arriving at the the hotel, It was not very well organised. Having to wait nearly an hour to get into our room was a little mind blowing. so many staff but no organisation anywhere. They had given our envelope to another couple. Apart from that a lovely relaxing time at this hotel. The staff are a credit to this hotel.

I complained several times to the hotel management about poor service at the main bar (waiting 30 mins for a drink in low season is unacceptable). Complaints should be dealt with accordingly with long term solutions (ie having more than 1 bar staff behind the bar), however, by the next day after the complaint, service was back to the same tedious long waits - not what you want on holiday. The bar staff behind the bar cannot keep up with the orders, and it is standard practice for them to accept drink orders and then tell you to take a seat - this is fine if it works, but useless if they forget the order which happened on numerous occasions. No complaints about the bar staff serving drinks though - Cheryl is lovely!

Secondly, there was a big commotion near the beach where one of the beach sellers (who are not part of the hotel) was about to throw a rock at one of the friendly dogs whilst on the hotel property. Some of the hotel guests intervened and the beach seller then got extremely aggressive and started swearing at the hotel guests, all whilst the hotel management just stood there and did nothing. This was disappointing to witness and shows that Ambre management does not care about their guests. I was gobsmacked to see that the hotel staff did nothing about this situation, the least I would’ve expected was for security to be called to sort out the situation and remove the abusive beach sellers off the hotel property.

In terms of the positives:
- Good choice of food for carnivores, and requests are generally well received. Ambre does, however, need to improve it’s food offerings to vegetarian guests.
- hotel grounds are well kept, and I had very nice conservations with Sailen who works tirelessly to keep the grounds maintained.
- excellent housekeeping staff, and the rooms are cleaned to a high standard. Nirmala, our housekeeper, was fantastic!
- Ravi and Nalini in the main buffet restaurant are very engaging with guests and help to create a fun dining experience.

This is my 8th time to Mauritius in as many years, but this is most definitely my first and last time at Ambre. The hotel is in dire need of a renovation, and the all inclusive package is very limited for Mauritian standards - I’ve never had to pay for ice cream during the day on previous visits to the island, but of course Ambre charge you, in addition to only allowing use of the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room if you book a spa treatment. Your money is better spent at a quality 4 star resort such as Tamassa or the nearby 5 star Lux Belle Mare. Overall I would rate Ambre as a 3 star, and I hope some of the feedback above will result in actions to improve the hotel for future guests who have already booked.

Dear Guest,

We thank you for sharing your comments on Trip Advisor following your stay at our resort.

Please rest assured these outlined points have been already discussed with all top management members in order to "re-work" the staff planning at the main bar in order to facilitate and ease the service at the Coral Bar.

We also wish to inform you that we always value our guests and with regards to the incident you mentioned, we wish to inform you that management was at the spot to assist and intervened in an orderly manner, which calmed the situation.

On the other hand, we glad to note that you have had an excellent moment at our resort and for your recognizing those who had the privilege in being at your service.

We hope you will give us the opportunity to regain your faith in our resort.

With our best regards,

Rajen Canniah

Writing this review while I’m still here, first impressions very nice, after a 12 hour flight we were greeted at the hotel by very friendly staff and some refreshments. After the usual check in we were shown to our room and bags followed shortly, room was ok nice walk in shower large bed tea coffee fridge and a small balcony. Our room was number 533 and was a fair walk to the main building and overlooking the garden, so not good if you have trouble walking. There are 3 restaurants the main one buffet service an Italian reservation needed for dinner and an outdoor one again reservation needed and you have to pay for food but get free drinks a little odd I thought considering we were all inclusive.
Quality of food in main restaurant was good varied menu and very attentive staff.
Pool area was great however if you wanted a prime spot get up early to put out your towel and not heated. plenty of beds on the beach tho. Pool and beach service was good.
The hotel next door is being renovated so there is some building noise.
One thing may concern folk is the stray dogs wondering about the place, can be disturbing when they keep barking at the staff and when fighting on the beach, while eating you evening meal outside they sit in the bushes waiting for food, the staff try to usher them away but the dogs get very aggressive, one pool waiter says he avoids them at all costs, not a good image for the hotel in my opinion.
The beach could do with some morning tidying up like they do at the lux hotel up the beach.
Considering it’s an all inclusive hotel it feels like full board, apart from coffee and cake in the bar next to reception 16:00-17:30 there are no other food snacks available outside restaurant times.
The evening Entertainment was nothing to rave about either, overall a nice hotel great pool area very relaxing apart from the barking dogs.

We spent one night to Ambre Resort, The staffs were very kind and polite. Room was very big with comfy bed and seaview. We also enjoyed the water activities + parasailing(its a must to do, if you want to have a great overview of Mauritius from the top). i would like to thank the Executive chef in the buffet restaurant for being very friendly, He gave us a complimentary seafood meal even though it was not included in our package. We also organized a surprise birthday party, the staffs were very cooperative. We were offered free snacks and a yummy cake. Anil, the waiter from the buffet restaurant was also attentive. He helped us in choosing the best drinks. Moreover, entertainment was superb with local songs and dances. Overall, i would like to recommend this hotel to friends and family. So thank you all staffs without forgetting Brinda from Front office.

This hotel is gorgeous . Just finished a 2 week stay here and had a fantastic time.
Rooms and location and staff are all lovely and helpful. No problems there.
Pool is beautiful and the beach is beautiful with lots of water sports to do.
Hotel is very clean and food variety is great to cater to everyone.
Problems we had that occur:
1. Tui in the small print state you cannot check in till 3pm even after a 12 hour flight and 1hour bus journey. Not the greatest situation when your shattered.
2. One night had a man climb up the side of the balcony at 11pm to be told he was fixing the air con which the hotel did Not noticing us of this and came to an alarming wake up call.
3. Some of the men on the beach that sell cheap goods are vile to the dogs one being the shell seller who through 2 shells at one innocent dog and a women who protected the dog which many hotel guests defended this dog to then have the rest of the sellers one being(piecered eating with a cross init) square face to face up to them. there obviously a reason why some dogs are scared of them. I wish the hotel had more control over looking more after the regular dogs as the family of dogs are so gentle and kind. You can buy local dog food from belle mare and feed them Or cheeky sausage.
These vile men should not be mixed up with Chris and mccloud who sell the 5 island trip as they are lovely and the trip is amazing experience. A must do if your staying here .

All I can say is the hotel is 5 ***** experience but I had to give it 4**** just because the way I saw the sellers treat the dogs . Very upsetting. It would be nice if the hotel could set up a programme to help the dogs and have a feeding time where the guests can help out and donate to care for them and protect them. And new guests please take a stand against these men.

When I was there a organisination called Second chance that neutered and spayed the four main ones.
One little golden one (mummy)
Two white large ones (sisters)
And one boy golden black head ( brother - noisy one)
I donated to this charity to help other dogs on the island in need.
This dogs made my holiday and many other guests.
So hotel manager please keep them protected and think of a programme where the guests can help . As I think you will get more a postive results by guests revisiting maurtius.

Thank you to all the staff at ambre

Dear Guest,

We thank you for writing your review on Trip Advisor.

We are pleased to read that you had a nice stay and can only thank you for having given us the opportunity to look after you and provide customer satisfaction.

Rest assured that your comments with regards to the beach hawkers and the stray animals have been escalated to the concerned department to inform the authorities. However, we wish to inform you that we already work with government authorities which look after the animals such as for vaccines or wound dressings for those that require medical attentions.

We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to our shores in a not too distant future.
