Drive from Kuching about 39km thru the wildlife sanctuary of orang utan and a scenic route!
Greeted by a lady looking after the entrance of the longhouse! Paid $8 (ringgit) per head for the entrance and accompanied by rice wine or tuak they called it!
Walk thru the longhouse and came to a room or bilek they call him and met a guy called Edward who was kind enough to part with his tales of the relics in his small entertainment room!
Nice place and worth the $8 ringgit.

We did the 1 night package. Our host, Edward, was very helpfull and pleased to show us his culture. We did a small walk to a waterfall (with lunch). In the evening, we had a village tour, and ended the day wearing different local costumes, which was very funny, especially for the children. Food was good.

The price is however quite expensive, especially as you pay 100 Ringgit per person (1/3 of the total price) to the marketing compagny. If you have your own car, you can try to go the village (it is close to Kuching) and ask for Edward. Otherwise, we saw different homestay in the village.

Quite a long journey going up there. Anna Rais is one of the well-known tourist spot for long house visit. The best time to visit is during Gawai festival because that time you can experience the culture and enjoyable moment during Gawai festival from dancing, music, house visit, traditional costumes and etc.

I spent 2 days and 2 nights with Edward, my host. We hiked to the hot springs where Siti made lunch. The next day we hiked to a waterfall. We had encounters w leeches both days. Siti cooked lunch the 2nd day using freshly cut bamboo from the rainforest. In the evening we participated in the traditional eagle and farewell dance with the local women. This experience may not be for everyone but if you like adventure and are willing to rough it this may be a great experience. This is one of several adventures i had in Malaysia that I will remember!
