Once we arrived,we were greated by Joseph, a local guide in the village. He explained well about the history and the life style of the Bidayuh. We tried 'tuak', rice wine which taste good.Joseph also provides homestay in his house. The people are friendly and we had our lunch in the village, trying their food. One must try their tapioca cracker...yummy.

This is the most famous Bidayuh Longhouse. A friend and colleague of Serian drove us here and we shared a meal with a resident and the colleague. We learned more about the culture and received a tour of the various rooms in the house. We also saw some interesting grafitti near the house drawn by a famous Australian artist. Because it was raining that day, we were not able to hike or visit the hot springs. We do plan to go back and explore more of the surrounding area!

Nice to see the long house but it could be much more interesting - perhaps with some locals in traditional dresses, somebody telling about life here... We got rice wine at the entrance, saw sme skuls and took a walk around... There were just a few chickens, cats and some people at the local bar...Not interested in strangers

We booked via one of our guide, a two days one night at Annah Rais Longhouse.

The truth is, it might be suprising at first. It doesnt quit look like a typical longhouse isnt? I thoughout it would be all made of bamboo, actually it appears to have new concrete structures.
It seems like hundred of people are living here more like a village type.

We decided to stay and we didnt regret it. We actually learn that the beauty of this place is based on People, about their lifestyle, get to know them in their intimacy.
They all are amazing, humble and talkative people.
For a couple of hours, we played with the kids and had a enjoyable time.

We stayed at Joseph homestay, he was extremely nice and passionate to talk about his tribe.
We were invited for diner, to one of the family house to eat loal food and then we tried on typical outfit.

I believe that, the Annah rais longhouse would be a greater experience if, you are really interested to get to know how they live and to spend time with them.
