“Recommended for short stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

Abell Hotel is fairly new (opened April 2011). It is at a good location - walking distance to most attractions in Kuching. The rooms are clean and the bed/beddings are very comfortable!
Breakfast buffet is so-so only. As it is near a few coffee shops, you can also choose to have Kuching/Malaysian breakfast outside. :-)
We chose rooms at the back as the front face the main road, which can be a bit noisy. Depending on which location, some rooms at the back have only very very small "ventilation" windows or long panel glass only facing the corridor - hence it can be a bit claustrophobic.
However, it is good enough for a short stay. I definitely recommend to have seafood at the "Top Spot" food court as well as shop for souvenir along the Main Bazaar nearby!
Staff is also very helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: If you do not mind traffic noise, the rooms facing the main room are better with full panel windows...

I was arriving into Kuching after a long flight so wanted a hotel booked and what a mistake to book into Abell. Arrogant management, small rooms. The lady manager wanted the front desk clerk to charge me for the telephone call while he was trying to help me
Dont stay here. for the same price there are better hotels in Kuching with better rooms and with windows

Room Tip: Just dont come here that is better..

Certainly, staff is what it makes a good stay in this hotel. Friendly, with natural smile and willingness to go extra mile to help at any point, people at Abell will outcome their colleagues from more established, "branded" hotels.

Location is good, walking distance to most of the things to see in the city. Rooms are cozy and warm. Some of the rooms are windowless, but they are equipped with false-balcony type window with nice flowers. Overall, it's perfect place to stay in Kuching.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with window, although even windowless rooms are quite nice.

I chose to stay overnight in this hotel for official duty in september 2011 for it's new hotel in town. However, it was a bit disappointing. Upon stepping out of the lift to my room, the whole aisle smell of sewage. The superior room without window that i stay is also just ok. It is spacious for 2 people, but the toilet is really small. The space between the toilet bowl to the shower wall is just a few centimetres apart. I cant imagine how can a big size person fit into the toilet bowl without getting in touch with the cold shower wall. The tv channels are limited and the voice control has a very big problem. Channel A with volume 15 is just nice, but once u switch to Channel B it's either no sound at all or super loud. The breakfast counter opened quite late and not much choices. But dinner at the famous carvery restaurant is very much recommended, you can hardly get a seat without early booking. In conclusion, i will not really stay there again as there are still a lot of better hotels nearby.

The lobby is large, modern and spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpfull to every request.

Rooms are somewhat small although have been renovated. bathroom is tiny, and needs glass shower screen instead of cheap looking and ineffective shower curtain, which allows water to flood the floor. The room has coffee/tea making facilities and fridge. Also large desk and flat screen TV. If you are disturbed by noise then a river view room will be disturbing by traffic noise. I asked to be moved to quieter room which was a bit claustrophic with no natural light - but quieter ! Hotel is well located to river walk which is very clean, interesting and many food stalls available.

Room Tip: Internal rooms are quieter but feel claustrophobic
