Kuching Waterfront Lodge
Ranked #18 of 55 Hotels in Kuching
Reviewed 4 April 2012

We stayed here for 8 nights and loved it. The lodge is a beautifully decorated charming old building in the older part of the city. With spacious rooms that are clean and well presented. The staff are friendly and helpful and the location is perfect with the river just across the street. Breakfast is basic but enough. We will stay here again when we return to Kuching, which we plan to do as this area is so beautiful and the local people so friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you have trouble with stairs.

Stayed a couple night here.

Friendly service, damp rooms, appallingly poor breakfast (but lots of options around in the hood), central location, in a rather nicely furnished old building, next to a noisy road. Seems to hit on some levels but just seems to be missing something......

The lodge is conveniently located on the main bazaar only a short walk from the open market and buses and across the street from the waterfront. Nicely furnished with dark wood and antiques in the lobby and very open. The room was very clean, carpeted, with soap, towels, and tv. View overlooked the street below. Free breakfast of tea/coffee and toast.

This little hotel is right across the street from the lovely Kuching waterfront and the old shops that are fun to browse are right along that same street and in the streets behind the hotel. What makes it fun is the location and also this sense of staying in a place with local charm. Now that sometimes is code for this place isn't so good. ;-) In this case the lobby, and the outside too, has lots of dark woods in use. It has a staircase that is open to the sky which mean that this wood staircase gets wet when it rains. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are buses available that stop right at the hotel daily to provide transport to local attractions. The rooms are simple and basic but comfortable. And it comes with a simple breakfast. Plus the price is very good. TV choices were pretty minimal, but we're there to see Kuching and Borneo, right?

If you travel because you actually want to spend time knowing the country then this is a much better choice than a resort that will look pretty much like any resort category hotel anywhere in the world. Nothing against luxury - this is just another fun way to go too.
