The best thing about George Town Penang being a UNESCO recognized city, there are many combination hotels from 1-5 stars, boutique and heritage hotels.
Having experienced staying at Wembly St. Giles, Jen, DoubleTree, Line Pine, Rasa Sayang, Hard Rock and Holiday Inn, this time we tried to have something different and managed to get HOTEL MUSEUM located at Jln S.A Mansor George Town.

This is a heritage hotel by the look, while the name itself explained what could be expected. First the location. It is off the main road of Hutton Road, thus it has less traffic crowding the place and parking is easy and they have a dedicated parking lot for guests too. The best thing, you do not need transport in this busy city centre. You could walk to most places.
There are many restaurants especially those who like Nasi Kandar as there is one right in front of the hotel, Mansor Nasi Kandar, slightly further up Ketapang Nasi Kandar and further away but within walking distance is the famous Penang Line Clear and Hameediah Nasi Kandar restaurants. Those who like Nasing Padang, it is a stone throw away from the hotel.

Komtar and Ist Avenue shopping is also within walking distance but we are not looking fir shopping. We were there to attend a wedding at Alam Indah Banquet Hall less than 10 minutes walking.

The reception is manned by excellent staff and we had the fasting check-in time in the world as they the info in advance, just show ID and signed. Although it is only one floor they gave a lift which is great advantage for elderly and those carrying heavy luggage.

Enterring the lobby and the room, you will be brought in time tunnel during colonial days. A touch if heritage ad the building is beautifully preserved. Most reviewers have touched on this aspect. We have to remember that we are inna heritage hitel and do not expect convinient as in modern 3-5 star hotel as this is not the purpose of staying in this hotel. We are back in time during St. Francis Light and feel the time.

The interesthing part is the bed, looked OK and very heritage indeed but once you put your body all sounds came out due to the age. Thus this hotel hotel may, just may be not that be suitable for honeymooners as the bed will make a lot of noise that other guests may know what they are doing, but it is part of the fun.

Other than the the room is OK, warm shiwer, flat TV, air-cond. fan, mini bar, coffee maker and safe deposit and generous 4 bottle of mineral waters are available.

The whole building is classic and heritage. There is a nice dessert cafe run by a very nice and friendly gentleman. All in all Hotel Museum is a wonderful placebto stay, especially if you like classic and heritage and take a little inconvinience in good stride. We will definately come back to stay longer. Keep it up Hotel Museum. We can’t wait to come back.

I'm not a fan of soul less modern hotels, although there are plenty of them here in Penang. Any city with a mosque (aka loud prayers broadcast into the street in the early hours) requires a little reserch on the hotels proximity. Despite being far from the mosque we did hear some distant chants the first night, and the street noise was pretty loud - a poor little kitty who had lost its Mom and a bunch of drunk guys - but we had just come from the very peaceful countryside and may have been a little sound sensitive. Other than this point, pssibly solved with ear plugs, our stay was fantastic. The staff always had a smile, were super helpful, the room endlessly cleaned, the bed comfy, the decor interesting and it was walking distance to the sea and a lot of great restaurants. We didn't have the breakfast or use the pool, but both looked good. I'd say this is one of the more interesting and reasonably priced places to stay in town.

When i booked the hotel, i was not sure whether it's well maintain or just an old hotel.
when we arrived, the location was at the end of an alley/street. kind of scary at first.

Check in was very smooth. no long queue. BTW i was there with my 4 kids. the person even brought us to our room. eventhough it's ony 1 floor, they even provide a lift.

My room has 2 levels. Ground floor, small space area. Only tv, sofa, refrigerator and coffee/tea.

upstairs there were 1 queen bed, 2 single bed. Very classic interior and yet modern. MOst important its clean. kind of like the bathroom. 2 toilets and 2 shower.

Affordable price and very near to all the "makan-makan" area. Walking distance.

Value for money, comfortable with no frills. Thought the breakfast menu was a bit limited and expensive which could account for lack of patronage. Close to main road where you could buy all sorts of food. Staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Room Tip: The room we were in didn't have a wardrobe. Hanging space was limited (a few hooks) and we could have used a few more coathangers.
