My partner and I travelled to Penang towards the end of our long travels of South East Asia and chose this place in Georgetown as it seemed to be in a good location and very good value for money, when we booked last minute with booking.com. However, despite one of the staff being friendly, not all of them came across in the same manner. In fact, when we asked one what the best way to get to a temple on the mountain top was, he suggested a bus. As we waited for the bus we also enquired to a cyclo-taxi whether he could take us there as it would have been an experience. As we asked this man, the man in the hotel proceeded to shout at us for not trusting his judgement! Despite trying to reassure this man that it wasn't like that, he continued to give us the cold shoulder and act very unprofessionally. On top of this the room we had was tiny, only enough room for a bed and our bags, had a huge gap in the wall, and the bathrooms were small, dark, dirty, practically outside and I even saw a scorpion sitting on a bathroom handle as I went to reach for it. Finally, just as a warning, this hostel, as well as the many others on this street, is located in the red-light-district of Georgetown. Overall, we were left unimpressed, however I suppose for the money we paid, it is hard to complain too much. On a brighter note they do arrange certain buses for your travels and various trips and tours which is always a bonus in hostels.
