We stayed in Penang for a weekend break and chose Campbell House as the positive reviews and pictures on Tripadvisor caught our attention. The impression was confirmed when I called and was greeted with a very welcoming conversation with Nardya at the reception.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Campbell House. The owners, Nardya and Roberto, did an amazing job at creating a beautiful environment in the spirit and style of a Heritage House, and all the people who work in the house were so smily and pleasant.
We rented two rooms: the Peacock room and the Silver Room, for 2 nights. Both rooms and beds were very comfortable.
The location was very convenient, as the house is located right in the historical center of Penang, and Campbell Street allows for a very pleasant stroll among traditional style shophouses. Campbell House is also close to plenty of options for eating out. Maybe one little downside was the sound of traffic from the main street. But after all, it is an urban location, and noise died down at night.
Nardya and Roberto were very gentle hosts and never failed to patiently take the time to dispense valuable advice which allowed us to make the most of the short time we had in Penang.
Campbell House comes highly recommended, and you will probably find yourself asking for more of the delicious and thirst-quenching iced tea which awaits guests in their rooms.

Room Tip: The Peacock room had a warmer feel to it than the Silver room, because of the choice of colours and...

I ran a photo workshop at the Campbell House Hotel in February 2012 with fellow photographer Matt Brandon. We chose the hotel for its central location and for the beautifully decorated rooms but it proved to be the perfect location for us for many more reasons.

We had eight participants on our workshop so with two rooms for the tutors, took over nearly all of the rooms at this lovely boutique hotel. I could talk about the convenience of the location, of the charming decor and the well-appointed rooms or of the great Italian food on offer in the restaurant but the thing that makes this hotel stand out is the friendly, hospitable and welcoming nature of the owners, Roberto and Nardya.

The reputation of any hotel or guesthouse, like any business I guess, will stand or fall depending on the enthusiasm and professionalism of the people who run it. Their attitude will inevitably cascade down to the staff and... well, it's clear that Roberto and Nardya run the Campbell House Hotel with passion, care and consideration for their customers.

I loved staying at the hotel and when you're running a photo tour with several other people to be responsible for, it really takes a weight off your mind to know that your clients are comfortable and well looked-after.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Penang - not even if you paid me. The Campbell House really was a home from home and the only disappointment was having to leave and say goodbye to Nardya and Roberto on the final day.

Room Tip: All rooms are great but the one at the end of the corridor on the upper floor (I forget the name) ha...

We stayed in Campell House for only three nights, but it gave us a taste of both the delights of being guests of Nadya and Roberto, and of being in the centre of the World Heritage area.
The rooms are tastefully furnished and designed, with large bathrooms, big screen TV, free standing mirror and the biggest, most comfortable bed in all of SE Asia!
The terrace out the end of the first floor is a great place to sit with a drink and watch the traffic passing by, or catch up your email with the free Wi-Fi.
Breakfast was a delight with personal service from both array and Roberto. Fresh fruit, toast and croissant with preserves and the local delicacy -Keya- coconut jam. Then yoghurt topped with finely diced tropical fruit, followed by eggs your way.
Both Nadya and Roberto are very knowledgable about attractions in the Georgetown area, including the best places to eat the local food.
I loved staying at Campbell House and we will e back for a longer stay later in the year.

I don't think there are many proper alternatives in Georgetown if you look for an unforgettable experience. Starting with the location and an atmosphere well deserved with meticulously restored old building. The atitude with wich I was greeted upon arrival also speaks for itself - while still in the street paying a fare to a taxi driver, the owner kindly came out smiling and helping me with a ton of gear and luggage I carried - everybody is trying hard to make your stay as cosy as possible and they don't wait around for work to find them, but it's the other way around.
I stayed in the 'peacock' room and besides all the details already mentioned in some of the reviews I can vouch for the bed - since I have problems sleeping, I wouldn't give five stars to a place where I couldn't have slept properly. I slept like a baby throughout my week at Campbell House, each night plunging into all four soft pillows on the bed.
It's even more convenient for me to visit Georgetown now - there's no dilemma about which place to book.

Room Tip: You can't make a bad choice with any of them (I took a sneak-peek at three of them), but 'Pe...

I stayed a week in the beginning of February. The wonderful reviews listed below are all are true from my experience at the Campbell House. This place is awesome! The location is perfect as well. When I give a hotel 5 stars, it is a hotel that I would let my Grandmother stay in. She would love it.

Room Tip: This problem might have been solved by now, but the 2 rooms at the end of the hall on the second flo...
