We didn't want to stay at a typical backpacker hotel. This hotel was clean, had internet and was walking-distance from everything we wanted to visit...

Overall:
Cheap and convenient place.

Room:
The room was quite spacious but basic. Hotel was a bit noisy.

Location:
The location is ok but you may wanna be closer to the city center. The city center is about a 20 min walk. On about a 5 min walk is a very cosy square and on about a 1 min walk are nice hawker stalls.

Other:
Wifi is available in the rooms. There's free parking but places are limited. No breakfast available.
On our first night here, the fire alarm rang. Many people descended the stairs, just to find out that there was this one guy responsable for the parking, who told us it was a false alarm. There was no other personel and no apology. Inconvenient...

We have just stayed for 4 nights at the PP Island Hotel, Georgetown, and had the worst 4 nights sleep ever. We stayed there so long because, after 6 months on the road, we couldn't really be bothered to lug our bags around to find somewhere else & it was cheap!

Firstly, the windows might as well be non-existent. Even on the 8th Floor, you can hear everything from the street below - people talking/shouting, cars, dogs, etc. There is a karaoke bar/club down the road, so you can hear people singing (badly!) until the small hours EVERY night. And also in the early morning you can hear morning prayer through the loud-speaker of the nearby mosque.

The walls in the room are also very thin, so you are able to hear everything in the neighbouring room - t.v, air-con unit, toilet flushing, pipes, etc. The corridors are also very echoey, so you can hear people coming in and out at all times during the day and night.

This is doubly annoying as the rooms are actually ok - decent size, the bathroom is modern and clean (although you can smell really strong smoke through the bathroom fan, whenever the person in the next room smokes).

Also, I don't want to cast aspersions on people (but I'm going to) but my phone charger went missing from my bag and also my make-up had been touched - even though both cleaners were male - but I could tell someone had touched my things as some make-up had been spilt. Of course, I can't prove this, so it's just a further observation...

Overall I really wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here and I'm marking everything down due to the above reasons.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2011

We were there on 1-3 April 2011. Initially we were a little skeptical because when we booked our room through the phone, the lady just took our details without providing us with a confirmation number. However, I called them a day earlier re-confirming my booking and informed them we will be arriving late.

We were lucky that we had a parking space (parking is extremely limited. You can park at the parking bays along the street but it is not free). The staff was probably tired from a hard days work because there was barely any communication between us when we checked in. Checking in was swiftly done and we were in our room 10 minutes later. Room is very basic. No tea/coffee making facilities but there is a plastic jug where you can take it to the water coolers at the lift to fill it up. No toiletries as well so make sure you bring your own shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Towels are provided.

We had issues with our first room (room 406). My partner found a tiny cockroach running along the cupboard. We killed it and complaint to the reception. The reception’s answer: ‘Yes ar? We will come up to check.” Whilst waiting for him, we found 2 more; one running along the baggage table and another inside the cupboard. When the receptionist came up, he brought along an insect spray. I am not too sure what his intentions were; Was he going to kill the roaches with an insect spray and ask us to continue to stay in the room? We demanded a room change and he had the audacity to ask us to go back down to the reception to do a room change. We angrily told him that we will wait for him at the new room while he returned to the reception to get the key.

The setting for the bathroom is quite weird. The bathroom is split to 2 where the toilet is inside while the shower is right by the door so the bathroom floor will constantly be wet.

If it wasn’t for the roaches, I think the rooms are decent for such a price (RM85 nett). Location is quite good as there are a lot of good food around that area. There is an internet café across the road although I think the hotel do provide WIFI. Overall, it is an experience which I do not want to re-live again.

Room Tip: try not staying on the 4th floor.

We go to stay on this hotel during chinese new year season. It's full occupied. That's why we always facing problem on the parking as only limited parking provided. We need to park far away and pay for the parking if we don't get the provided parking. The quality and finishing of the room was nice and clean.I like it.It's still feel like new environment.
Talking about the service,it's very poor...the staff didn't try to settle or give a better service if we as the guest facing any problem with the hotel. My sister in law was forgot to take his leather shoes when we check out.He left the shoes at the room and only remember on it when we reach KL.then,we contact the hotel and ask them either they got keep his shoes or not when we check out. They reply that they didn't see anythings left when they clean the room. This is very terrible...this hotel stole guest things!!! We even check and find out is it our own mistake but it's truly that my sister in law miss the shoes in the hotel room.He don't mind about the shoes price but the only things is the shoes was he and my sister wedding shoes use and it's got memorial...
Overall is the hotel room quality is ok but the service please kindly improve...
