Living heritage whereby people still live there but I would recommend that please give these residents their privacy.

Before my friends and I ended our short Penang trip, we stopped by this infamous Jetty. The entrance can be located after the Shell fuel station.

There's a small temple as you enter the Jetty area as well as food stalls and restaurants. As you stroll deeper, you will see houses on stilts above water, various shops selling souvenirs, small trinkets, food, clothing, and even decorative henna on spot. When you reach the end of the Jetty, you can enjoy photo shooting from one side to the other with the river as your background.

As my friends and I walked back, we did the decorative henna on our hand and leg which cost RM20 and RM30 respectively. You can get one of the designs from the sample folder or you can bring your own design and show it to the henna person who will draw it for you. Make sure not to confuse this with tattoo service.

We wanted to try the Fried Durian Ice-cream but unfortunately, the stall was closed. We compensated ourselves with customised passport covers, bag tags, keychains, etcetera in one of the first stalls by the Jetty's entrance called SMODE. You can have your name plated in metals and leathers.

Basically, it is a fancy little area with some heritage values in it. Give it a visit. You may as well do some art appreciation along the way too.

I was disappointed with Chew Jetty. I was looking forward to seeing it but it was just a short jetty with lots of souvenir stalls selling tacky souvenirs (not the authentic snapshot of a fishing village I had hoped). In five minutes I reached the far end, so turned around and headed back.

On the plus side, there seemed to be some good food stalls near the entrance.

There are few jetties and Chew Jetty being the famous one. Operation hours from 9am -9pm. These are wooden houses built on top of the seaside and there are actually people living inside these houses and we only peep from outside. Few souvenirs shop and eateries along the way. A good experience and if can get there early by 6am, will be able to catch the beautiful sunrise but from other jetties coz Chew Jetty only opens at 9am.

The jetty is worth a visit, but furthermore the history is worth hearing too. This place has to be respected, it is after all a community. But how interesting to hear it's origins and the reason it continues... Fascinating
