after searching for a while i found the place. Its above a poolbar. The stairs were dirty and when entering the house, it was dirty as well. You are practically living with a dirty family in their house. The restroom has to be the most disgusting. Nobody else was staying there. Unfortunately I paid for 2 nights there. And after driving around the island for a few hours i was certain there was nothing of interest here. So i decided to leave the next day. However the woman wouldnt give me my money back for the 2nd night. I smeared poop on the one of the other beds and pissed a bit in the room before I left. That teach them not giving my money back.

I was in Labuan on 7 May and found to my surprised that Uncle Jack has closed down.

I understood that the owner had some business difficulties and had to close down his operation.

Considering the time of the day that I arrived, on a rainy 4 pm afternoon, there were no other cheaper alternatives other than the Melati Inn, at RM 60 plus or the nearby Global Hotel at RM 80 plus.

Other than the relatively expensive places to stay, the above mentioned are some of the more pleasant places to stay as Labuan is a R and R area for oil and gas offshore workers which are paid for by the cash rich oil companies.

However nothing beats Labuan for the enormous range of whisky, brandy and all sorts of wines from around the world. Fresh sea food is also cheap, and the only other cheaper places in Malaysia would be far away Tawau and Semporna.

Well, been here now for 4 days...... can certainly say, the hospitality & friendliness is exceptional of Uncle JACK (this is how, he is known as with affection).
The price is just too reasonable. He takes care of everything from breakfast to bed, from your outdoor trips to everything..... he rents out scooter/vans too at a very economic rate.

I am sure, the name of Labuan & Uncle Jack will always be remembered for the best of my memories.

Labuan is a great place to spend two days exploring between Brunei & Sabah. We stayed I think 2 nights and had 3 full days here- there were only a couple of other guests so very quiet. Jack was sleeping when we arrived but seemed like a very nice and trusting guy. We rented motorbikes from him and explored on our own (WORD OF WARNING- You must have a bike license here, another guy got a fine when pulled over)
He gave us a map and a proper 15 minute history of the island and drew where to go, what to see etc.

The room was basic but fine, couple of toilet-come-showers, could be better but I've been in far worse. The outside area is cute, he said make ourselves at home and eat whatever we like from his fridge, can do our laundry etc. Really decent guy, plus location compared to ferry & a supermarket is ideal. There's also a small (possibly pirate!?) cinema across the road showing movies at stupid prices, like £1.50.

The great thing about Uncle Jacks, is Jack! He goes out of his way to make one's stay memorable. From gathering everyone together for a meal, to huge free breakfasts that vary from day to day. I'd have to say one of the best hostels I've stayed at
