We stayed at the Berjaya Resort, Langkawi during mid December 2011 for 4 nights. We had booked a Rainforest Chalet but on check-in we were more than happy to get upgraded to a Rainforest Studio (suite).

About the resort: The resort’s landscape is one of its biggest attractions. Spread across acres, the resort is bordered on one side by a private beach with powdery white sand and the placid sea. The rest of the resort is nestled amidst the lush green rainforest offering a wide variety of rooms to choose from - Sea View or Rainforest View.

The recommended Pahn Thai restaurant, located at one end of the resort, was a kilometre from our room. At Berjaya one has to avail the resort’s pick up & drop service often as the restaurant/ lobby may be at a fair distance from your room. Contrary to the reviews I had read of long waiting time (20-30 mins) for shuttles I had a pleasant experience. The service was extremely prompt during our entire stay. Even while returning from Pahn Thai (open only for dinner) we didn’t have to wait for more than 5 minutes, that too late in the night.

Rooms: Our room (Rainforest Studio) was located in the midst of the rainforest. The room (suite) was spacious, neat & tidy and had a private sit out. The room was recently renovated. The resort was/is undergoing renovation, so ensure you book a renovated room. None of the Superior Chalets are renovated and I was told that all Superior Chalets would make way for renovated Rainforest Chalets and Studios by December 2012.

Service: Prompt, courteous, helpful and warm. Have nothing to complain about.

Had a wonderful stay at Berjaya and would highly recommend the same to fellow travellers.

Location: The resort is a 15-20 minute drive from the airport on a secluded part of the island. It is located at a 5 mins walking distance from the Oriental Village (the starting point of the Langkawi Cable Car ride). There are no local restaurants nearby except for a few eateries in the nearby Oriental Village which are open only till about 6:30 in the evening.

Pantai Cenang, one of Langkawi’s busiest areas, offers a wide range of local restaurants and is about 25 mins drive from Berjaya. One way taxi fare to Pantai Cenang is RM 26 (it’s a fixed rate & cabs in Langkawi don’t ply by fare meters).

Berjaya is located away from the hustle bustle of the island and is recommended for people who want to enjoy solitude and tranquillity. If you want to drive around the island, it is recommended you hire a car. If you wish to be close to the local restaurants, pubs and experience the night life of Langkawi, opt for resorts at Pantai Cenang.

Recommended tours/attractions in Langkawi: The Cable Car ride (start the ride about 1.5 hrs before sunset in case you want to experience a picturesque sunset).

Canopy Adventures (http://www.langkawi.travel/): Opt for the full version; its fun, exciting and completely safe. The meeting point (Lubuk Semilang) for this adventure tour is about a 30 mins drive from Berjaya. One way taxi fare to Lubuk Semilang is RM30. One can ask the taxi to come back to pick you up for RM10 over and above the fare to your return/next destination.

Room Tip: The resort was/is undergoing renovation, so ensure you book a renovated room. None of the Superior Chalets are renovated.

Was at Berjaya for 7 nights in June 2011. My wife was pregnant with our first baby, so this was our last holiday as a couple before we got into the parenting duties a.k.a the nappy business, so it had to be special. Booked a junior chalet over water and on request was immediately upgraded to a premier chalet over water. The premier chalet was fantastic. It is a perfect romantic get away, highly recommended for honeymooners. The room and the bathrooms were in a very good condition, clean and spic and span. The bathroom layout was very good. There used to be a new towel arrangement in our room everyday. We had an issue with the drainage of our bathtub. We were immediately moved to another premier overwater chalet. The staff handled this very well. The staff was fantastic, friendly yet professional. They were very polite and went the extra mile to make your stay fantastic. Special compliments to Ms. Roxanne at the front desk and Mr. Khan the chef. Only flip side was the breakfast. While it was good, felt the dishes to be a bit repetitive. Some more variety would have been nice. Overall a fantastic experience.

Room Tip: Go for a premier overwater chalet

We stayed in Berjaya Langawi resort for 4 nights. We had booked Sea view chalet through their booking desk.

When we reached there they gave us a free upgrade to Premier Chalet on water their best room. A lady from reception came specially to drop us to the room. She was very sweet and explained us everything. The room was amazing with balcony opening directly on the sea, the view was just unbelievably beautiful.
Every evening someone will deliver free chocolates and flowers to the room. Their hospitality is just out of the world.

Their Thai restaurant Phan-Thai is most romantic restaurant on the Island. Must try green curry prawns there.
The resort's pool and Beach are also very clean we spent atleast 3 hours everyday swimming there . it was so much fun...
Breakfast spread was huge with various veg and Non veg option.
Did not try their SPA but heard good reviews from fellow travelers.

The only minus of the resort is that if you get a room in Rainforest then there cold be Monkey and Lizards around your room but for rooms on water ( Junior Chalet and Premier Chalet) there are no such worries.

Stay in Rooms on water and you will have a perfect holiday.

Room Tip: Choose rooms on water,

My husband and I stayed at Berjaya for three nights. We were at a company offsite but the wide expanse allowed us to be anywhere but near so that we could do our private exploration as well. The service, the people and the location was great. The rooms are straight out of a movie set.... The alacarte menu at dayang cafe may need a tweak. the chicken curry was weird. But the beef rendang was awesome. The pahn Thai restaurant was simply Devine. Will I go back again.., o yeah

We spent 3 nites at the resort and it was really relaxing and refreshing. The rooms were superb. We were upgraded from superior chalet to premier king for free! The rooms had beautiful sea view and away from the main lobby. I believe the rooms we had were recently renovated. Couldn't ask for more! Service was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The buggies that go around the resort was convenient for us to move around the place. Food at the restaurant was just ok and a bit expensive though. The beach is marvellous with such fine sand. The resort is a bit far from Kuah town, approx,. 20-25 mins drive but very near to the Oriental Village. Our overall stay at the resort was just perfect. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
