Have loved Toba for many years..and stayed at the Toba Grand many times.
Only on 1 occasion was I lucky enough to stay in a Sakura room on the 8th floor…but not so lucky on this my last stay in Toba.
The good points:
1.Free shuttle to/from the hotel and the driver handed out wet towels on this occasion
2.Welcome drinks in the lobby
3.A good selection of food for dinner & breakfast
4.The hot spring baths are good.
The bad points:
1.The hotel is badly in need of refurbishment in the rooms on 6th & 7th floors/Badly stained & old windows and the room and bathroom/toilet are out of date.
2.The restaurant area is really dirty in certain places and insects can be seen running about! The were too many families with young children here this time and the restaurant was crowded all the time it seemed.
3.The Japanese staff have no English language skills…but the abundance of Nepalese staff at this hotel at present helps a little in that regard.
This hotel has a wonderful location…and if you want to look out at the water then it is good…but as mentioned Toba seems to be a neglected area in many respects…and this is certainly true for this hotel at present.More
