The Bell is a short walk from the inn we were staying; we had passed it walking from the bus stop to the inn. On our first night in Nikko we decided to try the yuba set (monk's diet) for dinner - one for each of us. Yuba is bean curd skin - pretty awesome. Lots of different and interesting ways to prepare and enjoy yuba. The selection for that night: nimono (simmered rolled yuba with vegetables), yuba with sweet miso topping and koyadofu, yuba and vegetable with dressing, tempura, yuba-flavored konyaku/sashimi, miso soup with yuba, rice with yuba cooked in soy sauce. Delightfully tasty!

We've been to Bell two times during our visit to Nikko. This cozy restaurant, tucked away on a quiet street, is first rate. The Mountain Vegetable Udon and Soba bowls are very good, but the high point of our visit was having the 'Festa' set (1620 yen), offering some local specialties. Very good value. If you're still hungry after the meal try the Crepe with chestnut cream, sponge, and green bean filling-decilious.

I had a pork curry which was tasty although a little on the small side and with a slightly disappointing side salad. The service was excellent and it was all reasonably priced. The guy on the table next to us was really enjoying his yuba so maybe go with that.

We were on a tour with 10 others and our guide took us to this restaurant for dinner. If you wanted to try the local delicacy of yuba (made from the skin of soyabeans), you could order in advance a meal set that included hot and cold yuba. Most of us did, either as individuals or to share with our partners. We had one to share, as well as a fried rice dish. There was also rice and Misso soup (of course!). Small bottles of red or white wine (airline size) were available, as well as beer, sake and soft drinks.
The food was delicious. The Yuba has the texture of layered milk skin after boiling, and was quite sweet.
Highly recommended.

We had the 'yuba' meal as do many others eating here. We didn't think it was that great - just another meal. It was very quiet when we ate there. Service was OK. Nothing else striking about the place.
