Don't you get carried away by the look of the restaurant that gives the impression of it being a backpackers place .
The restaurant owner has a complex just behind with rooms to rent including a two bedroom apartment for family stay which justifies the high prices otherwise should you be people 4 or more .
Everything needed for night stay is provided for and is well clean from isnide with the wifi working quite fast .

Room tip: Choose rooms away from the front facing to avoid noise

Since the lodge is about a 15 minute walk away from the train station, we took a taxi here upon arrival with our luggage. After that we walked to/from town and enjoyed the pleasant walk. I brought a flashlight for the evenings. Do ask the host Ken for the best walking route to town - we didn't know there was a more scenic route until we were checking out. On our last day, we were able to leave our luggage at the front desk and they drove it to their other hotel by the train station to store for the day for 200 yen per suitcase - which was very convenient. We booked a double room and were pleasantly surprised to get a room with what seemed to be a king size bed. The curtains were fairly light and let in the morning sunshine early and I could hear the person in the room next door snoring. The breakfast is good, but even though we placed our order a day in advance the breakfast service can be very slow if they are busy.

My husband and I stayed in a corner double room with cross breezes and lots of light. The room was large for Japan and had all the amenities - hair dryer, tissues. But the best was the host, Ken, who treated us like welcome members of the family, offering us rides into town when he was going, cooking us spaghetti one night when we were late and hungry. The living/dining room was cozy with a large screen tv and several English channels; guests used it constantly. Second best after Ken was the cocker spaniel, Gouda (spelling?) who greeted guests and provided canine friendship. Third best was the high quality wifi. Although others have commented on the distance from town, it is only a 15 minute walk and cabs were always available at night for return at a mere $7.

Room tip: Corner rooms are brighter.

I was nervous about booking a room here because the guidebook described the location as inconvenient, but it was the only double room available for the two nights we were visiting. I am so glad we did. The other branch is a couple of minutes walk from either train station in nikko. You can check in there and they will drive you with your luggage up to the mountain side site. It is in a lovely location, surrounded by green, and the walk down to the centre (which takes about 15 or 20mins) gives you great views over Nikko. The room itself was very basic, but the bed was massive (kingsize, maybe superking) and the views great. Aircon, electric blanket, a bathtub. And great staff - happy to talk us through the sights of Nikko, recommend restaurants etc. They also run a 930am shuttle down to the town for guests. I would stay here again.

This hostel is cheap and the location is good. The hostel is just in front of the main Nikko station so it's really to be found after we arrived Nikko.
There is also a super market and some restaurants near to the hostel, so it's easy to find some food in this area. The room is just fine but clean enough.
