I thought long and hard about booking this hotel but it was worth it. It's situated in a beautiful part of the world- so pretty and peaceful. The hotel itself is quite old world but beautifully appointed. We had a standard twin room with 3 beds which worked for us.
The staff were all welcoming and helpful. They have a shuttle bus which takes you in to Hakone where you can catch the bus to Odawarra, do the lake cruise or to take you to the only restaurant(La Terazza) that seemed to be open past 5pm! The only other dining option seemed to be the hotel itself which was quite expensive. The shuttle stops running quite early but if you call the hotel they come and collect you.
The hotel is situated on the lake and has a nice walking track that takes you to the shrine(very close) and you can continue in to town for a pleasant stroll. Salon de The Rosage is on location where you can indulge in some lovely desserts, albeit quite expensive.
We chose the Western option for breakfast which was quite sufficient-fruit compote, croissant & jams, eggs done whichever way- it was quite nice and served in the french restaurant. you could sit on the balcony with a beautiful view!
While here, all 3 of us(my 8y old included) used the onsen which was my first experience of Japanese Baths and quite a good initiation. All the toiletries provided for the before and after showering were quite luxurious and got us in to a habit which has been sad to leave behind. It was amazing that even though it was so hot, we were happy to relax in a HOT bath on return to the hotel. In fact, the shower and bath in the onsen were better than that in our room. We really enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave.
Tip: if you're travelling here from Tokyo with luggage, the most direct way is on the bus. Even though a little longer, you get on and don't get off until you reach the hotel.

Despite having read many reviews about the dining limited options and how expensive the restaurants at the hotel are, we were still shocked at the breakfast. Paid extra, the breakfast was one thin slice of butter for two people, half filled glass of juice for each, one barely filled small pot of jam, again for 2 people...The staff have very limited capabilities to communicate in English or maybe conveniently didn't understand our demands. They put extra charge on the room for ''spa tax''.
We were told that all the rooms in the hotel have double beds and no king/queen size beds available. The amenities are also offered in limited quantities.
Too bad for such a beautiful location and fantastic gardens around it. they were the best part of the stay.

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. We took trains and buses which took us about 2.5 hours from Shinagawa. Once we arrived at the hotel we were warmly greeted by the staff. We upgrade to a room with a private onsen, which was worth every yenny. Our room was fantastic. We decided to eat at the French restaurant that night. Again the food was good, but the service was incredible and expensive. Another amazing experience!

The next day I decided to try the public onsen and I found the facility clean, comfortable and relaxing. I expecially liked the the outdoor onsen, the cool breeze from the lake could be felt.

The next day we decide to go in the site seeing tour (pirates ship) the cross the lake to the Hakone rope way. We had a great day exploring and eating black hard boiled eggs. Make sure you give yourself enough time to get back to the hotel. The ships stop at 5 pm.

That evening we tried to grab dinner in the small town, but everything closed early andbitvwas almost impossible to find a sit down reasturant. We finally found a chicken place which was cute and good. The iwenera where nice too. Watch out for the guard dog .

We checked out the next morning and headed back to Tokyo.

Overall we had and amazing experience at the hotel and area. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Oh one more thing. Use the baggage delivery service. Sooooo worth it.

We stayed in for 2 nights and 3 days . Best place to stay and view Lake Ashi and view Mt. Fuji and have a beautiful experience of onsen. Extremely helpful staff at the front desk. Highly recommend this place.

This hotel has the feeling of staying in a large country home. It is beautifully furnished and decorated with lovely views from the rooms. Our room was very comfortable with high quality amenities. The area is very tranquil and restful and the hotel reflected this in the quality of its service. The French restaurant had a very good menu.

Room tip: Best views were at the front overlooking the gardens and the lake.
