... but morning coffee and tea were rather a disappointment. Nice place to sit down and read a book.

This was a highlight of this hotel creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for all travelers to enjoy and even allowing you to wear kimonos there. The very nice feature of a free happy hour encourages people to stay, share and enjoy the mountain scenery and relaxing spaces of the hotel.
This is primarily a meeting place for guests as between 4 and 7pm when complimentary drinks are served. However, you can also order food from a snack bar menu. This is a very short menu and fairly expensive. However, as you're a "captured" guest here - walkable alternative eating venues are not possible - this is the easiest and most affordable option. No bookings seem to be needed and some guests feed their children from this menu.
As a meeting and bar area, I give it full marks but as a cafe or restaurant, it falls a bit short.
I had an amazing bacon cheeseburger here at this very cozy and comfortable lounge in the Hyatt recency. Good place for lunch. The Ume cider was also very interesting, sweet and fizzy.
I had a nice soup followed by a really good salad of tuna and veggies. The garlic bread came hot with real garlic.
