Picked this ryokan b/c of good reviews and b/c they can accommodate vegetarians. We took the local train from Gora station and it took about 35 minutes. The bus stop was just a very short walk from the hotel. The room is traditional with comfortable futon type mattresses on the floor. We slipped into our yukata robes (including tiny ones for my 3 and 5 year olds) and went to the onsen. The private onsens were booked for the times that worked for us, so went to the public ones. Of note, if you are traveling w/ small children, you can all go into the family bathroom which has a mini onsen tub to get a feel for it. The water is too hot for small kids to be fully submerged, but they enjoyed dipping their feet in. The dinner was a large Kaiseki style Japanese meal. They served me a lovely vegetarian meal and more appropriate kids meals for my children. (you just have to email and notify them of your preferences in advance). The bfast was also Japanese (and traditional), which was just okay to me. (no protein in the veg meal, just different veggies and rice for bfast). Overall had a good experience here.
Also used the luggage service at Hakone Yumato station to have our bag delivered directly to the hotel so we could start touring without it. It worked well!More
