We had stayed at Resort Pia or Resorpia as it was referred to then before and had had a very good time, so this time we brought the whole family. Some of the experiences was somewhat spoiled by how crowded Hakone was in general (Easter break and prime hanami period). If you do not like crowds, remember that many other people love to see the cherry blossom. We almost could not get off at the right cable car stop, but we managed (and even on the right side, which is important otherwise you cannot get to the hotel!).
Second mistake was that to save the legs of the tall teenagers we specifically booked dinner at a western table, which turned out to be booking a dinner at the western fusion restaurant instead of the very authentic japanese dinner we had intended. Nice food BUT nouvelle cuisine affair, which left us much poorer and still hungry. Our mistake, but a huge difference from the wonderful japanese meal we remembered from the proper Japanese restaurant.
The onsen area was still as great as we remembered, and no complaints about the room either.More
