We were visiting Hakone and wanted to try a ryokan experience. Mizu no To is really more of a "modern ryokan" or a combination of a hotel and ryokan with western style hotel rooms combined with access to hot springs. This is a great option for travelers who don't speak Japanese well and not sure that they want the full "traditional" ryokan experience. Overall we really enjoyed our time and thought that the value for money was high. It was the first time to Japan for my partner and she doesn't like sushi so this was a good balance of western and Japanese comforts.

Shuttle Pickup from the train station was prompt and a nice touch since the walk up to the hotel from the train station is steep and not a short distance. We had our luggage delivered from Tokyo so it was waiting for us in our room at after check in which was fantastic. Our two meals were excellent and although they were served in the main restaurant (traditional ryokans serve the meals in your room), the service was good and my partner had a good time. We enjoyed all the freebies including good Wifi connection, complimentary cakes in the room, free popsicles, free milk, and even free ramen! The complimentary tea in the waiting area was also very good. Knowing some Japanese is helpful, but not necessary as we saw many foreign parties manage to figure out how to use the private and group onsen areas. As long as you relax and have a good timing (including wearing the standard "loungewear" of the resort, you will find Mizu no To a highlight to your trip in Hakone and Japan!

We have stayed in several onsen ryokan hotels but Mizunoto was really impressive. Great value in terms of the variety of onsen choices and traditional cuisine they provided. It's a nice generous hotel, giving customers free snacks, drinks between meals. We were embraced in Japanese interior design, dripping water sound and scent of wood. The Japanese kaiseki dinner was delicate, and breakfast was a set of local food, such as rice, miso soup and grilled fish. If you want to experience Japanese culture, Mizunoto is the right choice.

I went there with my family and relatives. They don't serve you like a 5-star ryokan but they give you lots of extras, though only limited time slots. 1. they have free dairy drinks, sorbet after onsen. 2. they have free Samue (traditional worker's attire) instead of Yukata which is usually served but not really suitable as a nightwear. 3. they offer you a free beer and ramen at 11pm (only for 30min). Anyways, the hot spa is great, especially the one in the main building; they have two different springs. The room was very wide with western bed and Japanese tatami mats. We preferred futon on tatami which can also be done as the room is very spacious. Very satisfying.

Service was excellent. Reception staff could speak good English.

They provided little snacks in the room as well as tea bags and bottled water.
Toiletries and shampoo/soap/conditioner were provided in the room as well.

We have booked to include dinner and breakfast as well.
For dinner we could choose between hot pot or bbq. We choose bbq and enjoyed it very much with duck meat, pork, beef abc veg. The food was delicately prepared and feels like 4 course fine dinner. Rice was cooked at spot and very yummy. Sashimi was served too.
We had a hearty meal.

They served free ramen for supper as well.

For breakfast, it was mainly fish, soup and rice. It was enjoyable.

There are public onsen baths as well as 3 private baths which do not require reservation. The 3 keys to the private baths will be hung at the entrance and once you see it, you could use it. Very convenient.

Do join in the fun and wear the ryokan outfits for the meals and onsen.

For those that drive, they will do valet parking for free and they do accept tips. Great!!

They sell souvenirs and local souvenir food and there is a specific time when you buy you get discount. Do check it out.

Overall I loved this place and can’t wait to be back.

I stayed there with my sister, her sons and my mother. The room was really spacious and fully equipped, roomy clothes and socks were prepared for enjoying Onsen one by one. Dinner and breakfast were really amazing, tasty and volume enough. Bath was pretty nice to relax.

Room tip: fully equipped, spacious,
