Never believe that services planned to cater to the mass crowd in a beer hall can result poor waiting service when business is low. This is what the result when we visited the Hakodate Beer Hall. Once settled, we were handed an iPad and asked to order from it. It could be a nice experience if the waitress will explain how to use it. We had to request the clearing of finished plates which is unheard of in Japan. The various dishes were average and the beer selection was good. But our overall impression was negative at best.

We ate lunch here while in the city for a cruise port stop. After being escorted to your table you’re given an iPad that you’ll use to order your meal and drinks. A menu with both Japanese and English descriptions and photos makes it pretty easy to order. We selected the Muroran Style pork skewers, unique French pumpkin fries and Hakodate Weizen draft beer. The food was very good. Prices were reasonable. The beer was excellent!

After ‘clicking on’ the item you want on the iPad you submit your order. Within a few minutes the food is brought to your table and a receipt/bill is placed on a small shelve on the underside of the table. Later we ordered another round of beers and they arrived very quickly and their receipt was added to the tiny shelve. At the end of the meal you take the receipts to the check out at the front and pay.

We really enjoyed the time we spent in this restaurant even though no one there seemed to speak English and we would certainly eat there again if we return.

We enjoyed an evening in this beer hall with interesting decor, open fire and live piano / violin entertainment. The food was not expensive and interesting choices. We sat a bar stools and like the atmosphere and interior also.

We saw this restaurant on the 'hop on' - 'hop off' city tour. One of the stops are right in front of the restaurant. Hence, we jump of the bus and found it an interesting place for lunch. We were not disappointed at all.
