A typical Toyoko Inn, small clean room with a free tasty breakfast and a low price. We've stayed at five in the chain and been happy every time. Membership is not required, but the $15 fee obtains a 5% discount so it wouldn't take long to come out ahead for joining. It's possible to join when you arrive at the hotel. Toyoko Inns fill up early. We began booking our hotels four months before the trip, but in most cities their hotels were mostly full with only smoking rooms remaining. This hotel is about two blocks from the Hakodate train station. In fact you can see the hotel straight ahead as you leave the station. (Note: The Shinkansen station is perhaps ten kilometers away, with a JR train connecting the two.) The tourist area begins right outside the station door and continues for about two kilometers beyond the hotel, so this hotel is near one end of it. The restaurants in the tourist area have greatly inflated tourist prices. Go into the city itself for normal prices....More
