I love Toyoko Inn. Booking is straightforward, and you get what you paid for. The location of this particular Toyoko Inn is good, easy walk from JR station, past (right next to) the morning market, and an easy walk to other places of interest in Hakodate (bay area).

If you need to do washing, there are washers and dryers at ground floor (chargeable). Vending machines are also available at ground floor.

Toyoko Inn Hakodate Ekimae, as it name suggests, is conveniently located near JR station. Asaichi, morning market, is open just beside the hotel. The facilities of the hotel are just minimum, but for saving travelers it is perfectly O.K. The breakfast is complimentary.

The rooms are really small but for that price, I have no complaints. Basic hotel. I would say it is very value for money as the hotel is very near the JR station too! Hakodate Morning Market is 5 mins walk away. Very convenient!

Near JR Hakodate and convenient to go hakodate bay. You can see big boat view. Room is bigger than standard room in japan. Free breakfast and drinking water. Lastly the price is appropriative. Service is the best and many promotion for member

Toyoko-Inn is near JR Hakodate Station, maybe a 5-minutes' walk. There is no convenience store really close by (or I missed it), however the station being just a few minutes away, that was not a real issue.

The room (1107) was small, but functional, pretty standard for a hotel of its category in Japan. Everything was clean. The same is true for the bathroom: small, functional, clean. The free wi-fi (seems to be standard in Japan now) worked nicely in the room. A/C used for heating was effective, however in the morning the smell of cooking came in.

Street noise was not an issue, in fact I didn't experience disturbing noise at all, during my stay.

Breakfast had limited selection, I didn’t like it much, but it was free. I’ve seen coin operated laundry machines just next to the front desk.

I’ve spent 2 nights in Hakodate within 10 days in February 2015. One at the Comfort Hotel and the other at the Toyoko-Inn (my choice, based on TripAdvisor reviews, not being available on both nights). Therefore here is a little comparison of my experiences:
- The Comfort Hotel is slightly closer to JR Hakodate Station. The Comfort Hotel was a little cheaper. The staff at the Comfort Hotel was definitely more welcoming and helpful.
- There is practically no difference between the room size, cleanliness or sleep quality in the two hotels. Nor the breakfast.

Should I need accommodation in Hakodate again, at similar prices, I’d go for the Comfort Hotel. But should the Toyoko-Inn be clearly cheaper for my desired dates, I’d take the deal.
