Shizuoka municipal Serizawa keisuke art museum was constructed taking a work's and a collection's being contributed to Shizuoka city more than SERIZAWA KEISUKE and 1895-1984 as an opportunity. The activity is continued Serizawa's art is introduced widely through various exhibition, collection of a work and a study since opening in 1981, and to tell the great achievement in posterity. Many dyeing fans are being gathered from the Japan inside and outside of the country as an art museum of an unusual dyeing author in our country.
A building is also the place the people who visit watch. The natural material as the stone, the wood and the water is chosen, and it consists of it so that it may be located in a corner in a famous Toro park as remains in the Yayoi Era, melt in the atmosphere of the remains naturally and be crowded. The outer wall where the volume on which a stone was piled up is here. Gentle sheet copper roofed roof. And a mark of broad hatchet is also distributed so that an exhibition hall with the set ceiling of the Japanese oak material of a warm plain wood may go around a pond.
The change of exhibition is performed 3 times a year, and Serizawa's about 800 works and about 4500 collections kept at present are being exhibited in sequence.

Serizawa Keisuke is best known for his textiles but this Museum shows that his brilliance goes far beyond this. He is typically Japanese in the simplicity of his work but also has a distinctive style. Make sure you purchase as many examples of his textiles from the Museum shop or you'll regret not taking home his beautiful, distinctive work. It is worth a visit to Fukuoka if only for this Museum.

Not so easy to get to on public transport, but if you can drive there (or be driven by a local) it is worth your time.

More interesting, though, are the surrounding archeological sites of early, prehistorical settlement. And these sites are free (except for the parking fee).
