“Good but a little far from the city center”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

The hotel is nice , comfortable room and very good breakfast . The road to Takayama is picturesque (even after passing lot of tunnel) , however we were a little bit disappointing with the city , the mountain are nice , but not too much is happening in the city itself . Please note that lot of shops are closed on Tuesday. This was in July , and it may be different in the winter.

This was the most expensive of our accommodation on a 2 week family trip to Japan and we only stayed one night, but it was well worth it. The rooms are spacious and in a modern "ryokan style" - the beds are low but not exactly a floor futon and the decor is beautiful dark wood. It's a high rise hotel so in that sense doesn't have the feel of a traditional ryokan, but the floors throughout are tatami mats - so you walk around barefoot and in a lovely yukata (robe). A must do is the outdoor onsen on the top floor which looks out over the city - very relaxing at night time. The hotel even has a foot bath outside to soak your weary feet after trekking around Takayama all day! Location-wise, it was very close to the station (rather than in the old quarter) ie, overlooking the tracks, but once you're in the room it was very quiet. Old quarter easily walkable from here.

A very typical Japanese hotel with tatami mats and futons. Traditional Japanese food and great politeness from the staff.

Nice location, nice room, good food, good experience.
They have an onsen on top floor and during my visit I used it every morning and every nite.
Lots of choices for your breakfast, and they offer supper, and for me, it is kind of new experience for a Japanese hotel to offer ramen as their supper. The interesting part is walking around the hotel with socks only, as the hotel has tatami-mat on every floor, and I like this, very much environmental friendly (though every time when you come back to the hotel, you need to remove your shoes and put them in a designated locker assigned for each guest. Hotel staff are really friendly. The rooms are very nice, simple, and I think the rooms a lot, a lot of wood materials being used. I have a full 8 hours sleep every nite, very peaceful, and the bed is so comfortable. Anyway, it is worth every yen spent in this hotel. I would love to get back to this hotel..............

Room Tip: Corner room is recommended.

The outside of this multi-storey buildings is unprepossessing but once inside the guest is transported into a Japan of the past. Kimono clad reception staff - friendly, efficient and a number with excellent English language skills - crafted wood interiors, tatami mat flooring - barefoot or socks only allowed once past the lobby - and a number of onsen options (public and private), this is a great place to experience Japanese life as one might imagine it in the past. Our room was quite small as is the Japanese way, and those travelling with large or many bags will struggle to accommodate them in the room. The bed was futon-style on the floor, quite comfortable but without bedside tables. There was also a very small two-seater couch with coffee table facing a TV. There were no English language channels. The bathroom too was adequate with a sink outside the bathroom providing more flexibility. The hotel also provides free fixed Internet (but no wi-fi), free washing and modestly priced drying, and the free open air onsen is a great experience. We had a D, B & B package and were treated to two traditional dinners - shabu shabu and hida beef and roasted vegetables, both cooked at the table, supported by a buffet of Japanese delicacies, not all too this westerner's tastes. Breakfast too was predominantly a large array of Japanese foods but there were sufficient, albeit modest, western options, including fruit, fruit salad, croissants, yoghurt, cereals and scrambled eggs. The hotel is well located near the station and not far from the centre of town and the old town, a feature of Takayama.
