Clothing and accessories displayed on rotating mannequins in light-controlled rooms of an ancient building - what could be better to a textile fanatic?! I just wish the labels were all in English. Make a donation; this amazing collection includes village women's outfits, wealthy people's dress and some interesting male dress for various roles - with shoes, shawls, purses, scarves, etc. Obviously the collection is priceless for the pieces that are no longer worn, or in use, and it's imperative that it be preserved.

I love ethnographic museums. I have visited hundreds. This was one of the very best - in interesting old mosque out buildings, with innovative displays, featuring rotating figures so the costumes can be seen from every angle. I wish they would publish a complete catalog, particularly since photography is strictly forbidden. I took some photos, anyway - couldn't resist, knowing that a catalog was not available for purchase.

I'm a professional tour guide in Turkey for english speaking tour groups. Today I visited this lovely Museum with my tour group. It's one of the best private museum in Turkey .It has an amazing collection of old Ottoman traditional clothes, jewellery, bridal dresses, and so many wonderful pieces as craft works.
It's a MUST SEE place for everyone interested in culture & crafts.
Besides, the building where the museum is located is an old Medrese, 530 years old.

There is a little entrance fee, 5 Turkish Lira. Besides, it's so very important to support it with your visits & donations,so that such great collection can pass to future generations.

Make sure you make your way to this lovely museum when you visit Bursa.

It's so near to Muradiye Mosque. You can find different clothes combined with interesting jewels in various contexts (clothes from different regions, bride and groom clothes, clothing of young girls and boys, and so on). The museum consists of few small galleries to visit but has interesting pieces.

We read about this museum in our guide to Turkey and thought it might be interesting. Little did we know what an incredible treat was in store for us. If you have the slightest interest in the incredible artistry and workmanship of ethnic clothing, you MUST visit this museum! Mr. Esat Uluumay began collecting folk costumes from the Ottoman Empire (including the Balkans, Syria, Uzbekistan etc.) in the 1960s. His personal collection covers the 15th through the 19th centuries. It was turned into this museum by the City of Bursa. Housed in an old Ottoman building, there is room after room of folk costumes, complete with head coverings of all kinds, beaded shoes, boots, children's clothing and bridal attire from across the Empire. The museum also includes household items. Mr. Uluumay himself conducts the tour and his knowledge of Ottoman clothing is unparalleled. Every room is a total new delight of astonishment and discovery. DO NOT MISS if you are in Bursa.
