Our first time to Kalkan and Villa Keros was a great base.
The villa overlooks the far side of the bay and is elevated enough that its a clear view across. The infinity pool area is in the sun from mid morning onwards and is spacious enough for everyone to have a sun bed, very good beds they were too.
The villa inside has all you could need, 3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms and a loo downstairs. Everything is provided including washing machine, iron etc as well as the normal kitchen and dining items.
Beds are very comfy and with the air con it makes for a nice nights sleep in the summer. The maid service popped in twice while we were there and a chap comes to check on the pool so you don't need to do anything, just relax. You can park right outside the villa or use the car port under the pool area.
Its fair to say that this is one of the better villas we have stayed in over the years and is well kept. Communication with the owners was good all the way through the booking process so you'll have no worries. There is a local contact that manages the Villa and can help if you need it.
Tips -
you can take the water taxi across to the main town for approx. 70p per person one way, it runs all day and into early evening. Or ring for a taxi, journeys to/from the main town and back to the villa was a fixed 20 lire.
Kalkan is built on a hill so if you're in a wheelchair or have trouble walking you might struggle with the upper areas but there are plenty of restaurants on the flatter area by the harbour.
Kalkan centre has all the restaurants you could want and we didn't have a bad meal in any of the places we ate at. Many bars show sports but its not full of loutish footy fans, Kalkan is a bit more upmarket than that.
You can hire a car (we used Brave Tours) which is at the top of the town, by the main taxi rank. They just rented us the car and we paid at the end, no silly £2000 deposits needed in advance. They can also arrange other excursions but you can book these easily enough yourself. Suggest you hire a Astra as the Fiats are a bit naff. Local driving needs a bit more attention as obeying traffic lights, speeds and roundabouts seem to be optional....
Go to Fethiye on market day and haggle for best deal on fake t shirts etc as well as loads of fresh fruit and veg stalls.
At night Kalkan is very vibrant and you always felt safe and welcome, its mostly Brits in the resort so language is no problem.
You will see a fair few stray dogs doing the rounds, but the locals seem to look after them and the restaurants seem to have a resident stray dog or two giving it puppy eyes to the tourists. All of the dogs were friendly and just want a little treat or two.
There are plenty of historic places to visit, some nearby, some further afield, but if you don't hire a car most are covered by some of the tour operators.
Tip - visit the Haman (Turkish Bath) by Hotel Pirat Sultan right on the harbour front, we did it at the end of the two weeks. I wish we visited on day one as well. Just wear swimwear and your get the full steam room, foam scrub and massage for £30, takes about 90 mins but worth it.
For food shopping we used the Carrefour Local at the top of town, its bigger than it looks but isn't like the huge Carrefour, more like a CoOp.
TIP Don't bother taking much in the way of Lire into Turkey with you, just change sterling in resort as you'll get a better rate. There are plenty of cash points as well.
TIP The villa owners can arrange to have you collected and returned to the airport, this is well worth it and made for an easier day one of the holiday
I think thats it for now, but we will be going back and would happily stay in Villa Keros again.....thanks
