“Oasis of calm.”
Reviewed 11 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Just returned from 10 days at Grapevine Cottage and feel completely relaxed. It is a bit of a trek getting there but like most good things in life you need to make the effort.
Situated at the end of a very bumpy track ( a compact car with decent engine capacity is sufficient ), the property shares the plot with the owners house. Deborah is the perfect host, providing helpful information but always in the background, so no problem with privacy. She also provided fresh eggs from the various hens, ducks etc as well as walnuts from trees in the garden. The upstairs "deck" with it`s view of the coast and the sound of the mountain streams running through the garden were two lovely features. An added bonus was going out on a guided walk with Pablo, one of the dogs, who managed to lead me to the top of the nearby hill where a Turkish flag was flying.
We visited Berzigam, an unspoilt village on a nearby plateau as well as the ruins at Patara, Xanthos & Letoon and also did the beach thing on the local blue flag patch in Kalkan, and also the far end of Patara beach. Our highlight was the trip to Salikent Gorge and our walk 2k into it before reaching the point at which you need probably need some safety gear before safely going any further. You access it by wading thigh deep across the icy cold mountain river. One tip, if you have a guide, make sure you agree the price first otherwise you may get a surprise at the end !! All the trips were within easy driving distance of Islamlar. The roads were pretty good and traffic very light.
We split our eating between self catering at the cottage and the local restaurants in Islamlar. All seem to provide good food at very cheap prices. Let`s face it, you can`t buy a fresh trout meal in this country for £2.50 ! The village is easy walking distance, but take a torch ( there is one at the property ). There are also two local shops for the basics, our last visit to pick up a fresh loaf, two small bottles of water ( the water at the cottage is drinkable ), two chocolate bars and a tomato cost under a pound !!
Don`t go here if you want luxury and all mod cons, do go here if you enjoy natural surrounding and a comfortable relaxing time.

“Perfect rural retreat”
Reviewed 31 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

If quiet relaxation is what you are looking for, then this is heaven. The owner could not be more helpful but at the same time never intrusive. The cottage is a rural retreat not a synthetic modern habitation which needs to be taken into account when booking. If you like animals (cats, dogs, fowl etc.) then again this cottage will appeal. The lane to the property can be a problem especially with a bigger car. Locals really friendly. Wonderful location when visiting historical/beach/walking/wildlife attractions. Large amount of good restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

“Welcome retreat in traditional village”
Reviewed 27 September 2012 for a stay in September 2011

We spent a week here in 2010 and enjoyed it so much we returned for 2 weeks the following year. Private, relaxing holiday in picturesque area overlooking the Med, surrounded by the sounds of the local mosque and countryside. Within easy reach of ancient sites (Letoon, Patara, Tlos), lovely beaches (Patara and Kaputas), bustling towns (Kalkan and Kas) and Sakklikent Gorge. Having the sleeping area and bathrooms downstairs is a bonus as they are refreshingly cool after a day sunning yourself on the balcony upstairs. Mosquito nets provided. No need for air conditioning as the stone walls keep the downstairs cool. Fan provided upstairs. Main bathroom is wet room style. Plenty of ouside space for eating, drinking and chilling in the established gardens with the tinkling of the stream. The steep road from Kalkan provides stunning views over Kalkan and beyond. A number of very good restaurants in the village itself means you don't need to venture far although Kalkan provides many more dining opportunities but it is more expensive. Excellent sized kitchen / lounge area with plenty of utensils / crockery etc. Cats, hens, chickens and turkeys roam the gardens. Deborah is on hand if you require any info - she lives in her own property on the same plot of land but away from the cottage. TIP: take a torch!

“Amazingly idyllic retreat”
Reviewed 7 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

This was easily one of the most perfect holidays that we could have wished for. The house far exceeded our expectations and the grounds within which it's set are completely stunning with ducks, chickens, turkeys etc pottering around the most charming overgrown lawn. Deborah is lovely and a wealth of knowledge should you want to venture out and about around the local markets or into town. The drive up to the house is a little tricky so try to hire a 4 x 4 if you're not confident at maneuvering around rural rocky roads.. it took us a good 5 days to get used to the drive! This is a perfect retreat if you're looking for somewhere secluded, peaceful and loved. We'll definitely be heading back!
