This restaurant's reputation is good and this was a first visit for us. Plus points are as follows. The location is at the top end of Kalkan Old Town, with panoramic views from the terrace restaurant towards Kalkan bay. The menu is extensive and offers a choice of good Turkish cuisine with a twist as well as international fare. And the service was attentive and courteous.
The minus points are that the decoration was sort of shabby chic - sofa seating on top of painted palates was interesting, but didn't quite work. Nor the colour scheme of dusky pink and grey.
Food-wise, the portions were quite small. We started with the fish cakes. A good sauce, and the taste was good. But they were more potato than anything else and the flakes of fish were barely detectable. Main course was paella. Again, taste ok, but the rice was more like risotto and there were no mussels or chicken in the mix. The peas that were included were not cooked through. Having said this, the sucuk and the prawns worked well together.
So, a mixed bag. As to price, well this was not particularly good value for money. Price for starters averaged twice the price of other similar establishments and the moussaka, the signature dish, was surprisingly high. Drinks were on par, but sparkling water again pricey.
It's early in the season. We may have chosen badly, but we neverthesless came away rather disappointed.

Mussakka is always our first meal and always our last night treat. Mehmet and his staff go the extra mile to make you feel special. The food is top class and they keep up a very high standard. Wished we could have joined them in their Christmas and new Year Celebrations, we'll have to wait to our next visit in 2018, all booked and ready to go.

In our experience restaurants in Kalkan can excel one season and then be pants the next for one reason or another, or even fluctuate alarmingly from one week to another. A reason why recent TA reviews AE always the most useful.

What sets Mussakka apart for us is that its standards of food and service have been so consistently excellent over the years. For that reason it's always the place we take Kalkan first timers to ensure their first lunch or dinner is great, and Mussakka never disappoints.

An incredibly large and varied menu, embracing pan-Mediterranean and traditional Turkish, and equally good for fish, meat and vegetarian options. This year we and our friends ate there several times for lunch and dinner.

By common consent, the best menu items were the Creamy Chicken Liver starter, the eponymous Moussaka - so good one us refused to share, the Fillet Steak with Plum Sauce and the Yoghurt Kebab. Dessert opinion veered between the Fried Ice Cream(imagine a doughnut filled with vanilla ice cream) and the Baklava. Always worth asking what the catch of the day is, and one day I had a delicious freshly-caught local white fish whose name escaped me.

Handily placed at the top of the road down to the harbour, Mussakka should feature in your dining plans at least once during your holiday.

We had been recommended to come to Mussakka Restaurant during our stay in Kalkan in Sepember this year, our first visit but certainly not our last!
Mussakka was Wonderful, we had a complementary coffee when we called to book a table! From start to finish and when we passed afterwards the hospitality was so friendly. The food was amazing, we both had a steak, one with plum sauce, one Roquefort - Amazing! And the Salted Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake - Stunning!
I can not wait to call again at this most beautiful restaurant, Thank you :)
