Personal honest review-
Recently returned from Melas Lara. The hotel itself is beautiful and situated at the far end of Lara beach strip. Don’t be put off when you see all the other hotels that are much bigger in size than Melas as everything you need is there.
It was a very clean hotel with beautiful gardens and you would often see the resident cats (of which there were many) dozing in the shade- they did not come inside the hotel. The rooms were nice and the beds comfy, jacuzzi baths and lovely, powerful showers were great. We were not disturbed by any noise at night.
There was always something to do with the friendly entertainment team if you fancy joining in, no problems if you want to just relax.
We enjoyed a lovely massage in the spa and the slush puppies and ice cream at the pool bar were a welcome relief in the hot sun.
The staff worked tirelessly and most were very helpful, however, we personally found that quite a lot of the staff spoke limited English as their second language appeared to be primarily German, (as were the majority of the other guests). However, with perseverance, smiles and hand signs we mostly succeeded.
There is a free safe in the rooms and we found the free WiFi inside and around the pool to be generally very good. A beach towel is provided at the start of your holiday but you are then charged €1 should you wish to change it.
The main reason for only giving 4* instead of 5* is the lack of main vegetarian meal options in the restaurant. Yes the salads are lovely and varied and chips n pasta with tomato sauce was available at every meal, however, i became a bit fed up with this being my primary options when I had paid the same money as meat eaters (of which main dishes were plenty). I was also assured on two separate occasions that a dish was vegetarian only to quickly realise this was certainly not the case!
Just a tip- don’t buy your lilos etc from the hotel shop as you will find them much cheaper in one of the shops on the Lara beach strip and the shop owners are much friendlier!
Again, just our personal experience- Lara beach appears to be very popular with German holiday makers as opposed to Bodrum, Gumbet and Marmaris which we have personally found to be more English orientated.
Smoking is allowed on your balcony and in communal outside areas. 200 English cigarettes were about £22!
Observations- the shop owners prefer euros but were accepting of lira. Make sure you barter and stick to your guns on what price you are willing to pay; 9/10 you will get it at your price (as long as you are reasonable in your offer!),
Take extra care when crossing the roads and don’t for a minute think the cars will automatically stop at traffic lights or zebra crossings as they don’t and sadly we witnessed someone being run over.
The dolmus (bus) runs regularly and you can buy a travel card from either the hotel shop or on the strip and we also found the yellow taxis to be reasonable and always available.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to pack the mosquito spray!
I fully appreciate that each holidaymaker’s experience is very different and the above is just mine; if you have any questions just ask and I will try and answer.
I hope you have a great holiday wherever you choose to go.

Wish there was a 6* button. This was a luxurious hotel that we loved from the moment we arrived. Cannot fault anything. The food was top class. The staff super efficient and friendly. The animation team work their socks off and are really friendly without being in your face. The room was simply stunning as was all of the hotel. Excellent wifi connection and beautiful gardens. It was a perfect week. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break with high class facilities.

Smallest hotel situated in Lara Beach

Check in
arrived at the Melas about 2130hrs in the evening to be greeted by the bell boy who took our baggage to check in. The check in staff spoke good English and gave us great introduction to the hotel and guide to where everything was.

Room

The family room was very spacious with a twin room and a main double room with seating area. There was also a safe in the room free of charge. The bathroom has a jacuzzi bath and shower. There was tea and coffee making facilities which were topped up each day. There is also a fridge which has plenty of water, bottles of coke and Fanta and a few beers, topped up daily. The room was cleaned everyday and stuff that was left lying around was not touched.

Buffet

This can be a hit and a miss, not to say the food is not any good but people leave open the covers which lets the food go cold. The salad selection is amazing as well as the sweets. The ala Carte restaurant serves different selections on different night Italian, Chinese and Turkish.

Pool restaurant

Serves burgers, chicken nuggets and sausages as well as ice cream. Drinks from 10am to 6pm.

Beach restaurant

Serves pasta, kebabs and pizza all normal local drinks.

Lobby bar

Service can be I bit slow at times but the waitresses do their best and will get to you a small tip normally goes a long way.

Pools

There is a large not heated pool and a plunge type heated one that is used for the small slides. Plenty of sun beds around pool.

Beach

The beach is about a 2 min walk from the hotel. It is a shingle Beach were sand has been brought in to make it more comfortable. There are loads of sun beds and parasols

Grassed area

There is a large grassed area which has sun beds and cabanas. There is a small pitch and putt, chess board, volleyball court and football area.

Auditorium area

This was not in use when I was there.

Kids club

Shebo does a great job with the kids keeping them entertained from 1000-1230 and from 1430-1700 and the kids disco at night in the lobby bar.

Entertainment team

Dasha the sports instructor will keep you busy yoga, aqua aerobics in the morning and afternoon and step aerobics just before dinner.

The rest of the team do things like volleyball, bowls and darts games to keep you busy.

They also float about at night getting to know the guest and running things like the music quiz and bingo. They also keep you company in the disco at night.

There are various night of live band and a disco on the Sunday as it is the entertainment teams day off.

These guys work hard to make you welcome.

Doctor sorry Nurse not a doctor

Waste of time in my opinion having had a kid not well who had been sick and a sore tummy she wanted to get a private ambulance and have blood tests and scans having not even had a look at them. She could see the Euro signs.

Spa

Had a great Turkish bath and they also do massages and other treatments. Also has a small gym and heated indoor swimming pool. This facility can be used on your last day for showering before your bus arrives.

The staff work hard and will do their best to treat you well. Special thanks to Shebo, Dasha, Erkan and Erdi for making it a great holiday.

Would consider going back to this hotel if I go back to Lara beach
