“deserves a 5 star rating”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

Can highly recommend this hotel - all inclusive with Thompson was just perfect for our little family with my 2.5 year old daughter. The hotel does deserve a 5 star rating for their cleanliness, rooms are absolutely lovely, we had a superbe corner room with a big balcony overlooking the pool on the top floor still with close proximity to the pool / bar and restaurant. Just perfect. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the variety and quality of food is wonderful.
The outdoor pool was a bit too cold this time of the year (beg of April) for my daughter but she enjoyed the good size kids indoor pool massively. The sea was actually warm enough for a quick swim.
Having been there pre season meant that the place was only 1/3 full which was wondeful but it did not feel empty and lifeless.

Room Tip: definitely pay for an upgrade to get a sea view and ask for a pool view room (the rooms on the other...

Have just returned from this amazing hotel on the 1st april 2012 after 2 weeks. The hotel was just off the main road and is located on a lovely sandy beach. There is a lovely enterance hall and reception area. We were met by our thomson rep at the airport and taken to our hotel on arrival we were given our rooms and our bags were taken to our rooms by the very helpful porters.
The hotel is lovely and the grounds are perfect and very well kept. The hotel manager and his assistant manager are on hand all the time and can be seen walking around the resturant speaking to the guest and asking if every thing ok. They really try to make sure you are catered for in every way.
The resturant had plenty of choice for every one and the waiters were really nice and helpful and dressed for the evening. It was nice to see other guest make an effort and dress smartly for dinner.
The animation team Eamen and the other guys were really good and worked hard all day doing lots of activities from shooting, darts, zumba and lots more including the kids club. In the evening they would put on shows or quizs, disco ect they would take time to come and sit with you and have a chat both young and old. They really did do a great job so a big thanks to them.
Our first room was near a games hall and a little noisy for us so we mentioned it to the manager the next morning at breakfast, he was very sorry and had us moved in a flash to a lovely family room that had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathroom and was amazing. We had a lovely lady that cleaned our room and left flowers every day the room was always spotless.
I really cant say a bad word about this hotel it was lovely and the staff were great in every way and i had a fab time.
The thomson rep FITI was excellent and i would reccommend that you go to the welcome meeting which lasted about 15 min. He provided you with good info like how much to tip,how much was a taxi and were to shop. We did 2 trips one to the Zulu trip was great fun and entertaining and the other was the 3 cities which was interesting. Fiti is really good fun and very helpful so if you have any problems you can speak to him with ease so thankyou to fiti for making my holiday every thing i hoped for.
The hotel is about a 40 min stroll to the harbour were you can shop eat and enjoy a drink or a coffee and look at the lovely boats. On the way there you will pass other hotel and shop so it is a really nice walk.
All in all it was a great relaxing holiday and you were waited on all the time by the friendly staff so remeber to tip about 4 dinars to the chambermaids and a couple of dinars to the the barman now and then and also your waiter at dinner time as you will be given a set table for dinner every time and the same waiter.
There was alot of older people here as it was off season but the holidays were just starting and familes were arriving so this hotel was great for all.
A big thank you to the manager and staff for making this a perfect holiday

Room Tip: family rooms are really big but always try and get a room with a sea view

Reviewed 11 April 2012

Spent a week here with my wife at the end of March 2011. As someone who's always free-wheeled my way through past holidays, taking an all-inclusive resort break (courtesy of Thomson) didn't strike me as something I'd be in to. While I don't think such holidays will become an annual thing for myself, Bellevue Park sets the bar pretty high should I ever consider one again.

The hotel and room.
You're greeted by a resplendent foyer upon arrival, and check-in was swift given the coach-load of visitors arriving at the same time. The hotel is spotless, and the cleaning staff do a great job of keeping it so. Our room itself was one of the superior offerings, complete with a large bedroom, a separate dressing area, big bathroom and a great view overlooking the pool and seafront from our generous balcony. In-room entertainment was pretty scarce, with two English-language TV channels and no WiFi internet - but then you don't come on these kind of holidays to watch telly and surf Facebook.

The food.
I'll admit to being dubious about the free-for-all buffet nature of breakfast, lunch and dinner at first - but doubts subsided quickly. The kitchen staff work overtime to ensure there's always a fresh (literally) supply of food on offer, and the spectrum of what's available is vast. Local cuisine mixes with the more basic likes of pizza and chips - over seven days I didn't have the same meal twice. The waiters are fantastic, very accommodating and friendly. Be sure to tip 'em. As for the booze - sure, it's slightly watered down, but if you're all-inclusive, it's FREE. So just drink more of it.

The facilities and entertainment.
It was perhaps a little early in the year to use the large outdoor pool, but there's plenty of other things to do around the place. A well-equipped gym; a warmer indoor pool; spa treatments; games (of the pool / ping-pong / darts variety). There's internet access if you need it - but at a cost. A trip down the road to the local cafes and eateries provides you will all the surfing you want for free (as long as you're a customer). Furthermore, the private beach offers a welcome retreat from the bustle of the resort - although you will get hassled by locals shopping their wares. A firm but friendly "no thanks" puts paid to any repeat visits though.
In the evenings, the "Animation Team" put on a nightly show for all ages. Not my kind of thing, especially given the over-reliance on Dick Emery-style drag humour, but plenty other folks seemed to be having a whale of a time with them, and they certainly give it their all during the show.

The location.
Port El Kanatoui gets grief from Tunisians for its manufactured, inauthentic experience of Tunisia. Granted, the place is fairly run-down, but it has a kind of half-finished charm that suggests optimistic plans for the future.
The local marina is heralded as a must-see, but there's little there other than a couple of pleasant restaurants and a heap of tacky tourist shops. Like the beach, you WILL get hassled - mostly to take an over-priced boat trip or (in my case, maybe it's just the look I give off) buy weed. Best to politely decline either. The immediate vicinity of the hotel is fine - save for people who are determined that you MUST have a go on their quad bikes. Apparently this is the local's perception of the ultimate tourist experience - riding a four-wheeler up and down a dirt track. They'll try and get you to sign up. Repeatedly.

The (Thomson-organised) excursions.
Thomson offer a range of outings for an excess charge. We didn't have time to sample them all - opting to take a trip to Frigiua Safari Park and sample their famed Zulu theme night; and to visit the northern markets of Nabeul. The Safari Park itself is basically a zoo, so jettison any plans for feeding lions out of a jeep window. That said, there's plenty of species to see and they're given far larger enclosures than we seem to allocate in the UK. The temptation to punt several unruly screaming local kids into the tiger enclosure was almost overbearing at times. The Zulu evening in the adjacent restaurant was a hoot, despite being sat on a table of sour-faced Buzz Killingtons.
As for the Market Fever expedition - it offers a trip to the markets (TIP: check the prices in the local fixed-price shops before even attempting to negotiate with the market traders. They'll blindside you with friendly patter if you're not careful and you'll end up getting stiffed) and a visit to a local winery, before heading to Yasmine-Hammamet for lunch. The lunch itself was pretty lame, with an excess charged for any drinks (even water) and the promise of a "five course meal" amounting to little more than a main, three sides and some ice cream. Nonetheless, the markets themselves are worth the experience - just don't take any bull from the traders and always walk away if you're not happy with their price.

Overall.
Staying at Bellevue Park was a pleasure, providing both interesting excursions and lots of chill-out time around the hotel. During peak season the place fills up with annoying brats who seem to be given the free run of the place, but then I guess they're entitled to enjoy themselves as much as anyone else. The staff are first-rate through and through, and Fehti (not Fatty) - our Thompson rep - is a great guy, full of local knowledge and sage advice. Definitely highly recommended.

One final thing - tip the staff. They bust their humps to make sure you're well looked after, so common courtesy suggests that a few dinar here and there is only fair.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view to get the most out of your balcony - but we wary that, facing the east, the roo...

Arrived at the hotel and was greeted by the assistant manager and the bar staff who offered a cocktail on arrival. First impressions were very good and got better as the week went on.

The place is very very clean and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The drinks weren't brought to you as in other Riu's which is a shame but the bar staff are excellent and remember your drinks and you don't have to wait to get served.

Totally spoilt for choice on the food and sometimes got so over faced with choice that I ended up having one of their glorious salads. Everything is extremely fresh and the choice is so varied that even the fussiest of eaters (which it appears most Brits are !) can find something to eat.

The animation team were brilliant and tried to include everyone in the activities but didn't push you if you didn't want to join in. Got to admit that we didn't but they weren't offended. The entertainment was good and tried to put something on each night that would suit all nationalities. The best for us was the Fantasy night where they had a Fakhir was fantastic.

Went on the 3 cities trip which was well worth the money and the guide was very good.

We had a really good time and would recommend this to anyone but the holiday was spoilt slightly by the departure airport. It took over an hour to check in and then an hour to get through passport control. They were calling the flight before we had even cleared passport control. Can't understand why it took so long as it is a new airport just for tourists.
