“Brilliant Holiday, excellent Thomas Cook Reps”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

There have been a lot of negative comments about this hotel recently, but during our stay, we found them all to be very efficient and always very helpful. We travelled with young children and used the facility of the Thomas cook children’s club. The children loved it, “Loopy Liv” Children’s Rep was brilliant with the children and they especially enjoyed the chocolate party, and mini disco. Yasmine and Maddie “Reps” were always on hand to sort any little thing out and were fantastic is handling the issue with the men taking photos of the children. Sahara beach is a large complex with lots to do; the food was ok with lots of choice the children had a hard time deciding what they wanted to eat. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We will definitely be returning just hope the Loopy liv, Yasmine and Maddie are there.

My husband and I along with our 10yr old daughter stayed here 16-23 may 2012 with Thomas Cook, We have never visited Tunisia before, and sadly are unlikely too again. The reviews on here are very mixed and I tihnk it is unfair to rate the hotel on issues such as weather or airport problems. The rooms are small, like people say but to be honest why would you want to spend much time in your room anyway?! There is only 1 plug sicket in the room which in ours was above the mirror. We made friends with another couple who had bought thier own kettle, so needed an extension lead, which recpetion happily provided for them.
The pools are great, very clean as is the hotel in general. The food....well it's a 3star hotel in North Africa...the food was edible, but boring. However there is a good chocie and even being a fussy eater, I managed to survive! For our daughter is was very hard for her to find something to eat so we spoke to our rep, who in tuen spoke to the restaurant manager and he arranged for our daughter to have whatever she wanted cooked to order each evening. His name was Ali, and he was so helpful, he genuinly made our holiday.
All the staff in the hotel were great, and like everyone says, they will love you forever for a dinar tip (approx 50p!). The hotel shop only sells fake cigerettes, so you need to go to the petrol station just up the road to buy genuine ones....look for the blue sticker on the back of the box. The guys on the beach also sell fakes and they are horrible!! If you smoke rol-ups make sure you take plenty of Rizla papers as they are £2 per pack in the shop!! Also they don;t sell filter tips out there!
We felt very threatened when we left the hotel to get the "noddy" train to Monistair. The locals hastel you and try to split you up. They do not take no for an answer and we left after 5 mins. This is a poor country and whilst you can empathise with thier situation is was a scary experience. After this we only went on Thomas Cook excursions. We liked the Medina Ramble and unlike another reviewer, we found the reps great. They stopped us getting hastle and we were finally able to buy some souveniers.
On the way to the hotel restaurant there are guys selling Camel trips and Horse riding. We went on both (cheaper than Thomas Cook) and I cannot rate them high enough. After meeting the scary people in Monistair it was a pleasure to meet some friendly locals. Both places are really welcoming and frinedly and we felt very safe with them.
Also the guys doing photos in the hotel are great and highly recommended.
Tunisia is not like anywhere we have been before and isn;t a place to go off exploring. If you want a hotel based holiday with loads to do, and you accept it is 3starm then you will love it.

Went in the month of march
Thought it would be great going on my birthday an booked with Thomas cook who I would NEVER use again!
Got to the hotel and asked them would it be possible to have a cake or something sent for my birthday as others have had on here I was told go to the restaurant and get a piece there
I thought ok maybe that's what comments on the review meant only to find later on in the holiday others of all ages had requested at reception and received a cake
Most of the restaurant and entertainment staff were absolutely fab!!! Always get u involved and was lovely to meet them
We got a lovely room! Except be careful if it rains... We had torrential rain which couldn't be helped but flooded our room and belongings were ruined went down for towels to reception 5 times before insisting to be moved and received no help. They are very rude and don't want to no about problems
We met our rep and he seemed nice and told us about excursions and as my boyfriend doesn't like going out of the hotel just us because we don't feel safe we booked the medina ramble to the local market except when we got there the rep walked off and left us lost in the middle of nowhere
The second excursion we booked was the reason we booked Tunisia was swimming with dolphins after the Thomas cook rep said this was possible we arrived at the zoo 2 hours late and was allowed 2 hours in the park before heading back to te hotel
Problem was the dolphinarium opened as we were leaving!
We were so annoyed as we only had 2 nice days in Tunisia and they were a waste of time
I would never go back to Tunisia after this experience but at least we didn't go over on luggage coming back as it was in the bin lol
I contacted Thomas cook and they basically said its not there problem and their rep didn't say we could swim with dolphins
First and last time with Thomas cook never again
Please save yourself an don't go here complete waste of money!!!

We stayed at the Sahara beach hotel from the 9th May to 23rd of May 2012. I could probably write 10 times as much as this on the things to see and do at this hotel but will cut it down to what stood out for us. The transfer from the airport took less time than expected about 40 mins and the first stop was the sahara beach. On arrival my first impressions were that the grounds were very clean, tidy and well kept. There was a warm welcome at reception for us and we were offered a cool drink while we filled out our forms and recieved our all inclusive bands. Next we collected our key and headed up to check out our room.
We had a family room on the fouth floor with a sea view. This was two rooms with an adjoining door and there was plenty of room for myself, my partner and three children aged 10, 8 and 1. We also had two bathrooms which is handy with three kids. The rooms were clean and the showers were powerful and there was always enough hot water for us all to get a shower daily. The beds were very comfy too. We did request a cot for our baby but there was a bed instead that wasnt suitable for him but after talking to reception they had one taken up to our room. Our maid was a man and did a very good job of cleaning the room and none of our stuff was ever touched.
We arrived just before lunch so after unpacking we headed down to check out the buffet. On the way to the dining room you pass lots of stalls advertising trips and some shops. The stall holders will tell you all about what they have on offer the first day but after that we just got a friendly hello from every single one weather we purchased anything or not. Most of the stuff for sale you could find cheaper if you go into the towns and are willing to haggle. We did organise a family foto shoot out in the gardens from the boys in the hall. They took really good pics of the kids and didnt hastle you to buy any of them but they are so good you will want them all. U can get a big photo for 2.50 each or buy the cd. We went on the camel trip with one of the stalls as it was cheaper than thomas cook. The kids loved it. they got to ride horses and camels and watch traditional breadmaking then eat traditional food. It was a half day trip and included coach pick up and drop off. We payed 30 English pounds for the five of us and it was well worth it. We got another warm welcome in the resteraunt. We were shown to a table with plenty of room for all of us. The food was lovely and not once did any of us leave the dining room hungry. There was a mixture of Tunisian, spanish, Italian, german and English food. There was a chef that would make u a fresh pizza and you could choose your topping, same with the omelette guy and someone that would make you up a fresh stirfry with the ingredients of your choice. And a choice of 2 different soups with fresh bread. These were available at every lunch and Dinner along with a selection of meals that changed daily. One day we had delicious roast beef and yorkshire puds, lasagna, fish dishes and every salad you could think of. There was also a sweet counter with fresh fruit and lovey cakes, cheese cakes mousses and ice cream. For breakfast there was cornflakes, eggs in various forms, quasaunts and home made jam and toast.
We had the same waiter for lunch and dinner and a different one for breakfast. They were very helpful and never expected a tip but were greatful for the 2dinar (about 80p) that we gave them. One Dinner time our baby was very tired and restless and our waiter noticed us stuggling to eat and trying to get him off to sleep and he came and rocked the buggy and within seconds we had a sleeping baby after us trying for over 15mins!! There was also a beach bar that served similar food down on the beach throughout the day
The Pools were amazing and so clean. There was an indoor pool, a childrens pool, a relaxation pool, a quiet pool, an animation pool and a water park. We spent most of our time in the relaxation pool which was huge and had waterfalls. We also went to the aqua park wich was open from 10-12 and 3-5. This was great fun and something different.
My daughter loved the kids club it was for children aged 3-11 but my son whos 10 didnt want to go as they mixed the 11year olds with the 3 year olds as the hotel wasnt that busy. The one time he did go towards the end of the holiday he loved it and met lots of new friends. The animation team were great and worked very hard. they would also take some of the older kids during the day to play football or darts and my son enjoyed this. There was plenty to do in the hotel grounds. we played mini golf. There was also archery, french bowls, tennis and much more.
The hotel had its own private beach. The sand was lovely. There was quite a lot of seaweed though close to the water and in the sea. My son tried the infatable sofa that gets pulled by a speedboat and he loved it. If you go past a certain point on the beach there are men that will pester you to buy stuff off them and can be a bit of a pain.
At night the main place people went was the showbar. There was a disco for the kids then raffel then a show. We enjoyed the fantasy show, magic show, you bet and lion king. The shows started at 9.45 so we sometimes left early as it was v loud and our baby wouldnt settle.
As soon as you leave the hotel grounds there are horse and karts and taxis that come over and try to offer you trips to places. even if you just said you were goin to the end of the road they waned to take you there. We just told them we wanted to walk to settle the baby and they left us alone. Theres not much just outside the hotel. We went go- karting wich was great fun about six quid for 15mins but they got about 30mins. Theres also a lovely cheap shop called miami about 10 mins walk away. Monastir and sousse are just a taxi ride away. Theres no metres so you just pay about 4quid each way. the taxi driver will want to wait for you and take you back even if you say you will be a couple of hours. We loved monasir. The ribat, the souk, the presidents mausulium. Lots of bargains here too. Watch out for the men trying to sell stuff on the streets though. They will put jewelry on the kids and wont take no for an answer. Just catch them before they aproach n say you have no cash or your not interested and they go away. Tunisians have amazing memories and we were remembered every where we went. All hotel staff were friendly towards us and helpful and had a lot of time for the kids. The kids enjoyed every second of this holiday and would go back tomorrow. We had a lovely stay here and think we got our moneys worth. The only thing I would change is we would of liked it to be within walking distance of one of the towns so we could of explored more without catching a taxi.

Room Tip: The views from up high are great

Kids loved the pools and water parks dont listen to the bad reviews as i can say we never had any hassle or worries the whole 2 weeks that we were there.

U can get a taxi from the hotel to 2 of the major towns for 10 diner each way just sort out the price with the driver before u get in.
