We used to try and imagine what staying in a high class hotel in the French riviera used to be like and now we don't need to anymore. Our second stay in this property (previously in 2008) has been nothing short of 'magnifique' with absolutely nothing but praise for every aspect. We booked with the hotel directly and they were even kind enough to organise our transfer from Tunis which was very convenient as we were travelling with our 3 year old. Our room was on the top floor, overlooked the grounds, pools and in the background the beautiful emerald green Mediterranean sea. With new furniture, carpets, LCD TV, still retaining the spaciousness (comfortably large enough to hold an additional large single bed), very well designed walk in wardrobe, bathroom with separate bath/ shower and the best bit, a magnificent balcony which trapped the sun for most of the day, it was a real treat to come back to such a luxurious room cleaned immaculately on a daily basis. The only facility missing was a kettle but true to form, when we requested one, it was provided within 5 minutes without any fuss. As it was off peak, only the smaller buffet restaurant was open and all our meals were here and whilst the choice was not extensive, the quality of the food and service were without fault! The lobby area with its amazing hanging bar is very tastefully designed in a French 1950s theme and everywhere is spotlessly clean. The grounds and pools are beautiful and we really enjoyed the fact that being off peak, there was perhaps only 20% occupancy as it gave us a real sense of intimacy and privacy. We used the indoor pool everyday and the due to the glazed roof it felt like being outside with the comfort and warmth of the inside. One cannot fault the attitude and service of every single member of staff from the reception, restaurant and bar was exemplary. The manager, Nuno Neves, made an effort to say hello every day and was very warm in his demeanour. All in all, welcome back to what hoteliers were like 60 or so years ago. Bravo Riu Oceana!
