“Not riu standard”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

Currently staying at the riu palm azur the hotel itself is beautiful great rooms 32 in tv on the wall very clean. The food is ok but not 94 out of 100 as first choice rate it.A couple of occasions the food was under cooked ( fish chicken pork ) which made my wife unwell . But to be fair they were under extreme pressure due to the euro finals. Apart from this a large selection to choose from including the standard fail safe pizza and chips. Now the beach in the brochure it says lovely sanded beach turquoise sea . The beach is unclean camel/ horse droppings and rubbish( bottles plastic empty fuel containers) to name a few. The sea looks great in the pictures in the brochure but they fail to mention it's very rocky and again full of debris as a snorkelling fanatic found this very dissapointing. But if your a pool person this I can't fault this (water polo water basket ball aqua aerobics) all great fun. The staff are all friendly and try to keep you entertained around the pool area. Unfortunately can't say the same for the evening entertainment it really is pants. But if your after a relaxing week away to doss by the pool and not care much about the evening entrainment then this is for you, weather is quality been 38 this week but wouldn't recommend 2 weeks you will be very bored

We just came from our 7 nights all inc holiday with TUI . We have had great time and would definately recommend to all my friends. As in comment before there is no much to do but it's great value for money. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Only few things have been dissapointing that air condition didn't work very well till our last day ...... Typical :)))))
And coffes and teas not as good as I expected.
Overal room has been clean daily. We had no problem with sun beds and matrases at all.
In shop at the hotel we got all little presents we wanted. Just never accept first offer you can pay much less than they ask. :))))
We would like to say big thank you to Jill from Thomson. We really enjoyed our stay in Palm Azur.
However weather was no issue no less than +28'C every day.

Thank God this hotel was as good as it was as the island of Djerba was very disappointing. After you've taken the Quad bike ride and shopped the local stores, there is very little else to do.

However, leave the island for a few days and this country has a lot to offer. We visited Matmata, Chenini, Ksour Region, Medinene, Tatouine and the Ksar Ouled Soltane. A few of these locations were stunning and provided shooting locations for the Star Wars movies.

The landscape varied considerably. You could drive for an hour and in that time pass beaches, olive groves, mountains, salt lakes and sand dunes. Pretty impressive!

As for the hotel, I must say we have never encounted such a well equipped and clean resort. I believe the hotel was only renovated last year after an explosion in one of the kitchens, but it seems that incident has done wonders for this hotel. The rooms are all equipped with flat screen Sony TV’s (with USB port - handy if you wish to bring some movies with you or view your holiday photos when you return to the room), large balcony, modern bathroom (with a great shower) and free safe access. You could even access the free wifi service if your room was situated close enough to the reception area.

The restaurants were all well equipped and provide a pleasant experience for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was varied enough for our tastes and anyone who has stayed at an all-inclusive resort before will be happy with the service. The hotel also provides a speciality restaurant which has to be booked a few days in advance. This can get busy, so it is recommended to reserve a place early on in your vacation.

The only issue my girlfriend had was that that coffee was not as freely available as from other hotels we’ve stayed at. She is a complete coffee-monster, so it may not bother everyone and is a small hiccup in what is a great hotel complex.

The swimming pools were clean and for the most time empty, although I can imagine get a little busier mid-season. The beach was well equipped with sun lounges, cushions and umbrellas. There was a slight smell of sewage from time to time, but not enough to bother you. The Riu beach seemed quieter than the surrounding hotels which we preferred, but you could quite easily walk across to the others if you fancied getting a blackeye from an out-of-control parasailer.

The staff seemed very pleasant and although English is far down Tunisia's list of spoken languages we seemed to get by ok. You are in luck in you speak French as this is practically a second language here. Not surprising given the country's history.

If you are travelling from the UK with TUI, I can highly recommend the 'Desert Discovery' and 'Planet Tatouine' excursions.. These full-day excursions will take you into the heart of Tunisia, where you get to see Berber homes, ride camels into the Sahara, shop local markets, sample local cuisine and experience the real Tunisia. Oh, and don’t miss the Quad bikes – Awesome!

Please check out my You Tube video for highlights from the vacation http://youtu.be/a48haBUJ6eY

Having just returned from a wonderful week at this hotel, it is with great difficulty to find any fault with this place.
The cleanliness excelled, the food excellant, the ambiance abounded, and as for the staff from Senior management all the way down to the gardeners were always welcoming. On a personal note we would like to say a big thankyou to Mohamed on reception who put himself out to sort out our transfer problems caused by a UK holiday company.
It was such a shame that there was a problem with seaweed on the shoreline, but that was due to the high winds prior to our arrival, and on speaking to other holiday makers at the airport before flying home they experienced the same, this appeared to be all around the island.

Room Tip: Try and get one near the lift, as it is a long walk from the lift to some of the rooms
