This place is a real Club, once you come here, you always want to return. It's not obvious what for exactly : either for the guests that you meet there year by year, or the amazing food, that the Lady Boss is cooking every day! the location (lots of beautiful beaches not so crowded with good restaurants) or the warm care of the boss that doesn't let any of your wish without attention.
I love this place. Coming back 3rd time. every time is better than last time! Introduced the hotel to 2 friends and they loved it too.

We stumbled on this hotel after moving from Yaoyai resort which we found very overpriced. Yaoyai resort also had a problems with large jelly fish and is not really suitable for swimming due to its rocky shoreline. Thiw Son Beach Resort location is more spectacular, the beech is pure white powder sand and the bunglows are right on the beach. The resort also looks directly opposite Hong Island. If you walk down the beech you can even have your own Hong Island experience, at low tide. The beech is nearly absolutely deserted so you can have the whole virgin beech to yourself. We had a nice fan room bungalow for 700 baht a night, although air con rooms are available at a more expensive rate. The restaurant serves very good food at a very reasonable price unlike yaoyai resort. When we were there in January there were only a few guests, but the resort has only recently been mondernised. The resort is also very well located, because it is only 10 minutes from Klong Hier Pier. The public boat goes from the mainland, Bang Rong Pier, every hour and costs 120 baht per person. The owner will pick you up for 200 baht which we recommend, because there is only one songthew waiting at Koh Yao Yai who picks up the odd tourist who stops off on this island instead of going directly to koh Yao Noi. You will find the people here a real delight. The children always smile and give you a wave whilst driving around on their mopeds. The small food stalls along the road are also a very tasty option. We recommend that you hire a moped whilst staying on the island, because it is a safe way of getting around. You also don't have to worry about cars, because there are only handful on the whole island. It is also worth exploring a number of virgin beaches, one of the best is Son Bay. If you are into alcohol then this may not be the place for you, because afterall it is a muslim island. However don't despair, because all the restaurants and guests houses do sell alchol. Up the road there is also another small development that sits on top of a hillside called the New Hilltop that also may be worth a visit in 2010. If you need to watch a sunset rather than a sunrise I would recommend that you stay at Heimat Guest House rather than Yaiyao resort, because the woman who runs this place is a real delight to talk and her food is excellent. So in a nutshell if you want to enjoy the real Thailand instead of going to the concrete jungle in Phuket this place will be for you.

Beautiful setting, french run, well kept and friendly. Not on the beach but a 10 min walk to lovely beach. Owners will run you around in their various vehicles, but beware it is not cheap (I thought they were being very helpful till I got the bill!!). The food is good, breakfast can be Thai, american or continental. Staff helpful & friendly French speakers but can speak some english. Beautiful gardens and pool. Jaccuzi can be turned on for a fee (we had a free try onwe evening!). Free internet access if you ask, a supply of books in various languages can be used, weight equipment and table tennis (never saw it used though!). We stayed in the rooms but there are also bungalows which looked lovely. Very clean, fresh towels and sheets daily, usual cosmetics supplied (plus condoms...more unusual!) Quite a way from Ban phe but a good get away from it all hotel where you can really relax. We booked through an agent in Ban phe but if you go through their website it is cheaper. discount for longer stays.
