We were a large group of friends holidaying at the nearby resort of Karon Beach. Wanting to explore a bit further afield we spoke to an operator of one of the local long tail boats and they suggested a ride to Freedom Beach.

The next day, we hired a couple of Long Tails and made the short trip to the beach. The boat ride was good fun and gave us the chance to site a bit of the local coastline. Arriving at the beach we disembarked and arranged a time to be collected for our return trip.

First impressions of the beach were extremely positive; crystal clear waters, a clean white sand beach and a backdrop of palm trees. This was the type of beach we had been hoping to discover whilst in Thailand.

As we had set off early, we were among the first of the days visitors. As we were walking up the beach we were greeted by the owner, who was conducting a litter pick. As we had young children with us, he advised us where to pitch up so that we could take advantage of the afternoon shade as it became available.

You can tell the pride that the owner had in the beach, and he came over to talk to us on several occasions. His stories about when the Boxing Day Tsunami hit were both fascinating and frightening!

There is a beach bar on site that serves food and drink, although we brought our own with us on the boat ride.

There is a section of beach that is roped off for snorklers. It was in this area that we taught our 7 year old daughter to snorkle. She said it felt as if she was swimming in an aquarium!!!

Although the beach filled up as the day went on, at no point did it feel overcrowded and there was plenty of space both on the beach and in the water.

All too soon our boat returned to take us back to Karon Beach.

A very enjoyable day out on a secluded and picturesque beach. We would definately return if we ever visit the area again!

After enjoying the Patong beach for 2 days, we decided we had to go some place less crowded. So went to Freedom beach which was a small boat ride away. The beach is a real paradise. We did a little snorkelling and sunbathing and swimming in the crystal clear waters of the beach. There is a small cozy shack on the beach which serves yummy food and drinks after a tiring day. A must visit.

The access to the beach is quite a journey. When you leave the bigger road, you have to drive on a very bumpy path. When you arrive at the end of the path, you'll have to pay 200 THB and then starts a long descent towards the beach.. arrived down you have to climb again in the forrest and go down again before you reach the beach .. and it is worth it. The beach is beautifull and there are few people (we were there in low season and the journey to reach it must discourage many .. because don't forget, all you descended you'll have to climb again after when you go back and it is quite steep .. not the right beach if you have some heart issues :)

As said the beach is fabulous, but in the back of it, it looks like a rubbish dump .. people are pigs ..

I also told the guys who charged us money : "Looks folks, if you charge 200 THB, you should at least clean the beach" but they came up with a sh..ty excuse.

My husband and I planned to spend the day there, we had rented a motorcycle and had food and drinks with us. Finding the road to the beach was easy but once you leave the motorway you have to face a very bumpy and hilly unpaved road, so if you are new in riding a motorcycle I wouldn't suggest this transport! When we finally found the spot to leave the motorbike, we were "welcomed" by two dodgy looking man that wanted to charge us 200THB p/ person to pass through the "gate" and when we said we new the beach wasn't private they said it was then for parking the bike, and it was the Thai way... it didn't feel safe to insist, neither fair to pay, so we got our things and went to another beach. Such a shame as it seems a beautiful place :/

This beach is very beautiful.
Enjoyable sun and clean beach and great atmosphere. When you lie down on the beach, sometimes sellers show you them products and you can buy well there as well.
