“Phuket Holiday”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

Our second visit to Patong and we found it even better this time becaue we knew our way around and had a better idea of shopping and bargaining. We did a few day trips and thoroughly enjoyed them. Siam Elephant Safari was excellent. Trip included a dinner cruise leaving from Chalong Harbour. We did the Sea Canoe as a self paddle experience which was excellent as we had our own guide accompanying us in a kayak and one other couple in another canoe. The only problem we encountered was because it was a king tide shortly after a full moon we had to wait for the tide to fall to access the caves, whereas others were in inflatable dinghys which the paddlers actually semi deflated to make it easier to get through the caves. It was a tight squeeze getting through the caves but we made it!!!
I would thoroughly recommend a Fishing Charter. We chartered our own boat so it was just the two of us, the captain, deck hand and our fishing guide. Our guide actually bought a lot of his own fishing gear and rigged all our lines for us for all the different types of fishing we tried. Although we didn't catch any big fish we had a great day and well worth the price.

Room Tip: We choose a pool access room. What a great idea. We had our own balcony leading to a section of th...

Very impressed with this hotel, breakfast was great each day heaps to choose from. Room was huge and air-con was fantastic, swim up bar was great and staff very friendly. Great location away from nightlife end of town but close enough for easy walk along beach road, 7/11 across road very handy. Internet room great place to relax. Girl on tour desk extremely helpful. Stayed with friends, great time had by all - would definately stay again!

Room Tip: Book swim out room, although first floor room overlooking pool was great!

The hotel staff are lovely, always smiling and happy to help. Make sure you book a non smoking room if that is what you want as they only have one level of non smoking rooms.
Awesome breakfast, great variety and lovely service.
We liked the location, not too far from the busy night entertainment and very safe.
We enjoyed our stay :)

This is our FIRST Negative Review EVER.
This was our letter sent to tha Hotel General Manager (No Reply as yet)

Dear Sir,

After a recent stay at the Patong Paragon Resort & Spa, we have found it necessary to write this letter to you regarding our experiences at your Hotel.
We have been fortunate to travel across the globe for the last thirty (32) years, with many memorable experiences. Our stay at The Paragon was certainly memorable, but for the wrong reasons.
We booked (9 Nights).
You may find it easier to understand our experience if we explain in list form:

1) Check In: Everything was done as expected
2) Welcome Drink: A glass of "Rosella" was offered to us,in Australia we have something similar, (We give this to children) We were told by the bar staff, you MUST drink it here, this is good for your health. DO NOT take the glass away from this bar. We decided not to drink it.
3) Room: Big room & bathroom, overlooking the beach. It was cleaned daily & supplies
Replenished, 2 beds put together (1 x higher than the other) we booked a minimum Double bed. 2 x tea bags & coffee sachets/day, staff reluctant to supply extra. No massage or treatments in room etc, as the Paragon no longer offers this service, As stated in Your advertising.
4) Internet: Not available free as advertised, we could not access this in our room, and was TOLD To use the Internet room, and pay, you MUST pay. This person was Very Rude and
Kept laughing at us, and was insistent that she was right and we were wrong. She said "you have been told a lie"
5) Pool Area: A nice pool, but NOBODY available to issue us towels for the first two days. When We did get issued a towel we were TOLD VERY RUDELY "you MUST bring back Today, not tomorrow". On our second day at the pool swim up bar, we ordered 2 x Singha Beers (Thailand's local beer). We were told they had none left. This was 2:15pm, and
Maximum about of guests around the pool we saw during our stay was (14). Maybe This is is why! No Towel Service, Beer & Music? I never went in the pool for the last (2) days of my stay, reason being, someone had (to put in politely) a Bowel Movement in the POOL, and this remained in the pool, For at least (2) days that I know of.
6) Spa: This is still being advertised, but NO services are available to guests. My wife is very
Disappointed with this.
7) High tea: We saw this in the room information folder. We asked about this and was told this Is no longer available, but still advertised.
8) Breakfast: No complaints here. Hot food was hot, cold food was cold, good selection.
9) Entertainment: We tried to get a drink in one of the Paragon bars at 9:35pm, we were told they We're closing the bar. No music, unless you sit in the restaurant. Would this be Better in the bar area?.
10) Staff: Most staff tried there best to help, but seemed unsure on what to do or how to do it.
Could this be because MAJORITY of Staff had a TRAINEE badge on their uniforms. We understand that most of us started our working life as some sort of trainee, BUT Who is their trainer who is overseeing them?

What is surprising to us is that we rarely saw other guests, other than breakfast time. The biggest problem with The Paragon Hotel, is that there is no Holiday Atmosphere AT ALL. We are all paying guests, we have chosen this hotel, we should be made to feel welcome, and the most basic requests should not be a chore for your staff.

Before you ask the obvious question, yes we did try to speak to the Duty Manager on two occasions, but was told he/she was unavailable.

We would like to say that this is the first time we have found it necessary to write a letter to a Hotel General Manager.
At this present time we will not be returning to The Paragon Hotel, and further more we could not recommend your hotel to anyone.

We look forward to hearing your response to our letter.

Yours Sincerely
Gary & Linda
