I found Super Divers from TA. I initially contacted three top listed dive ops in Phuket as listed in TA. 2 replied, 1 replied too late. So here's my full account of our experience with Super Diver.
The Booking Process...
was fine & smooth.
What made me chose them initially was not only their being top ranked in TA, but also for their flexibility in course offerings.
We came to Phuket to take our PADI Open Water cert whilst previously having done a Discover Scuba Dive (DSD) program in Bali. We were looking for a dive center who could give us credit for our DSD. None is willing to do that but Super Diver.
One purpose is to shorten course time, because we dont have many days in Phuket.
So instead of doing the Open Water (OW) course in three days, we could condensed it into 2 days. That was a great bonus as we spent the other day not diving, but to travel around Phuket :)
Another purpose is to save some course fee. So this was one of the main reasons we chose 'em.
The Customer Service...
was top notch.
We are the only clients that were given sea sick tablets among many others, without us having to ask.
Super Diver is the only one on the dive boat to do that, other dive clubs didnt do that to their clients unless sea sickness is well evident.
This made us slept really well up to the dive spot. Ready to jump :) We love this touch!
In the morning before the class session, we were picked up by a taxi promptly. So as on the dive day.
Their refund policy was also among the most flexible for us clients.. go check 'em out on their website to learn more. They also didnt charge for the Paypal credit card fee. So we can save more too here.
was trully excellent !!
Meet Jon "The Neptune" Walsh.. our instructor. Btw, the Neptune nickname is what I like to call him because he grow his hair & beard much like Neptune, God of the sea :)
& perhaps the most important of all when taking any course is the instructor himself.. right??
We had just the two of us to an instructor, so its a low 2:1 ratio. That gave us plenty of time to learn, ask & practice. & we love this.
Jon, is a great instructor. He explained many complex things & make 'em simple. Many things didnt quite make sense to us & he did make his effort to give examples & demo in a simple ways.. such as using plastic bag to explain about descent or explaining the difference between the many ascend techniques which are similar yet different.. we love his approach.
We also love his sense of humor. Jon is a very funny guy & he kept us entertained pretty much for the duration of our trip.
One thing he did not have ample enough is perhaps patience. There were one or more skills that we didnt do well on the sea. His words were direct & somewhat sting. We did really well in the theory part, which he was very happy too. We also did well in the pool session. But only on the sea, that we didnt perform as well as he had expected perhaps. But again, he returned to his funny mode pretty fast. This is the only turn down point for us; everything else was just fine.
We especially love the extra service provided by Super Diver instructors, where they would bring their own camera for us, taking our photos & videos. Even at an extra 1000 baht cost, the memories are beyond measure.
Jon took many many beautiful pics for us & so glad to pay him for his effort.
The Dive Site.. Racha Yai & Racha Noi...
have clear blue water with excellent visibility. Great for selfies too ;)
We initially chose Phi Phi dive sites, but due to weather situations, the sites have very poor visibility & Jon advised to opt for Racha instead.
In hindsight, Phi Phi sites are known to be more challenging than those of Racha. Having enough trouble while learning in Racha made us grateful that we didnt choose Phi Phi & is also a great reason to return to Phuket next time for Phi Phi :)
Racha islands, as we mentioned, did have great visibility but THAT'S IT !!
The aquatics life are not that colorful & the corals are not that beautiful either. Great sites though for beginners like us.
The Dive Equipment of Super Divers..
are in excellent & clean conditions.
We dove with few other companies in Bali & they really fall short to Super Divers.
The regs are clean. The wetsuits are still very pretty with their logo on it too.
The Overall Experience...
The dive boat, Mermaid MV, was alright. Enough food for the whole day. Never having shortage. Food is just basic though, nothing too fancy.
The Thai boat crew were helpful too; they helped us with our gears & gave us hand when we exit the water.
On the way to Racha islands, the sea was very wavy, understandable being this is the monsoon season. Sea sickness tablet will be a great idea if you are prone to one.
So there you go... we are not hesitate to recommend Super Diver for your dive trips if you are in Phuket.
Will we come back to dive with them again if we're back in Phuket ?... BIG YESSS
thanks Jon "The Neptune" Walsh.. & peace yahh.. stay HAPPY with a wink (just like you often do)..
and thanks the whole Super Diver team
