We really are most grateful for your review and I am delighted you all had a great Pre-dinner drinking session with us and loved it . .
a 17th century colonial setting has the hallmarks for a great occasion and I am very pleased you enjoyed our Local Gin tonic in this colonial building which recalls the past
Thank you once again for sparing your valuable time in sharing your experience with us at GFH
Everything in hotel is like being in a poirot film. The staff are the most amazing friendly people you can meet. The rooms are what I expected, with everything available to guests. Bed is incredible and access to pool, brilliant from garden rooms. Breakfast is great, done with time and care to make you feel five star. A must if you want a proper galle fort experience.

Thank you for your generous recommendation on Galle Fort Hotel !
We never stayed at the Hotel ( It has only 13 rooms ) but used it like it was during the test match here . Staff were incredibly welcoming and service was nothing less than slick. The food too was amazing at a lot less than you might think. Sitting on the veranda sipping beer one could have been anywhere . A gem ..

Amazing food, professional service and a 17th century colonial setting has the hallmarks for a great occasion, and I am very pleased you enjoyed sitting in the veranda sipping beer which , Indeed the location is brilliant and the veranda provides a cool sanctuary to chill down away from the tropical heatis
Next time you return we would be glad to see you at the GEM property as you named Galle Fort Hotel !
According to locals, before it was sold to the current owners, this was a first class hotel. There is no doubt it could be again. However, in spite of some of the surprisingly positive reviews here on Trip Advisor, it most certainly isn’t now.
The raw material is there. Excellent location, lovely historic building, impressive common areas, lovely courtyard for meals and, last but not least, excellent friendly service. BUT....
...as several reviewers have mentioned, the rooms desperately need some TLC and money spending on them and the kitchen needs an overhaul.
First the room. Again the raw material is there in terms of construct, but badly stained chair covers, frayed and dirty carpet, slightly leaking roof, smell of drains, rickety cupboards, dimmer not working, etc, all demand renovations, which the helpful manager admitted were being undertaken in the next few months. Too late for me!
Now to the food. As has also been mentioned elsewhere, and on the basis of one meal only (stayed for 5 nights but only ate there on the first), the dinner standard is well below other restaurants in Galle (eg curry served cold is not an appetising prospect), for example the excellent Fort Printers down the road. Breakfasts are below average compared to the 4 other hotels of similar rating that I stayed in. As an example, a tiny bowl of what they called muesli contained mainly bran and corn flakes. However, these are minor matters compared to the rooms.
Such a pity. Galling in fact...
It is a pleasure to hear from you again and your feedback and comments are most welcome. As you pointed out we are most fortunate to be located in the middle of the Fort , it is a great place to spend your stay.too
The Grand Apartment occupies the entire top floor of the old wing and has two king-sized bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a private veranda. Covering an area of 2,500 square feet its architecture is Georgian in style and it has a beautiful collection of 17th century Dutch furniture including two period spiral king size beds.
it was most regrettable that at the time of your stay the heavens opened and the roof in the room leaked. I do apologies for that but am also pleased to report it has been rectified and the Point you have brought out is which we have been working on already , to get the carpet and the sofa covers to be replaced i will personally assure and guarantee by January all of this will be change and i will for sure will keep in touch with you by email. Having said that it is magnanimous to mention the hotel looks well refurbished and maintained otherwise.
Looking forward to welcoming you back on another visit.
I can’t express how much I loved my five night stay at Galle Fort, it is a very special hotel. all the staff are charming, welcoming and so helpful. They will organise anything for you from an umbrella to shelter you from the rain, to where to go for dinner and a pack up breakfast at 5am! I traveled with friends and my husband during the England vs Sri Lanka cricket and wasn’t expecting to enjoy my trip as much as I did and that has a lot to do with the hotel. I want to come back every year, our room, the Porcelan Suite was beautiful. The bed was romantic and comfortable and facilities were perfect, English plugs, lovely shower and toiletries and plenty of space, I want to stay here forever,
Thank you so much for your generous and candid review and it was an absolute pleasure to meet you all. I am very pleased you enjoyed your 5 Night stay with us and had time to soak up the colonial elegance in this 17th century mansion. and yes everything matters to us for everyone who stays with us since we need to make our valuable guest's feel relaxed and a memorable stay in Sri Lanka and also we are pleased that you enjoyed the Porcelain suite which is a most enchanting suite, full of Dutch character, lofty high ceilings, spiral four poster King size bed and lavish display of export grade porcelain
I am so glad you managed to unwind a bit while you were here, relax and enjoy the place and to return home knowing that staying at GFH had been the right choice.
Waking through the doors is like going back in time. The hotel is full of colonial charm and the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful if they tried. The food is excellent. My only criticism is that I booked the Portuguese Barack’s room due to the large stone bath. Unfortunately, hot water is not available for this facility. I that the hotel will think of a way to either plum this in or provide the guest with hot water for the tub is so desired.
Your review is most generous and I must thank you for taking the time to share it with us. Many travelers chose Galle as their final destination point before returning home and it certainly is a unique and memorable place from which to farewell Sri Lanka.
The historical aspect of the hotel which you felt when you walk through the doors , link with the Dutch Fort and colonial administrators is information we like to share with you and it sets the tone for a great cultural experience when guests first set foot into the hotel.
The hotels progress from being a once dilapidated and abandoned former 17th century merchant’s house to a beautifully restored Dutch Villa and its later English architectural Dutch influences. Its restoration is a triumph and evokes a subtle sense of colonial grandeur, skillfully updated for the modern age.
The room you stayed ,The Portuguese Barracks is one of several room categories and is located on the ground floor of this former 17th century Dutch merchant's house. Former stables, horses were cared for in this room and provided transportation for members of the household. Thank you for letting us know.regarding the bath tub not having hot water, will see in to it , apparently the bathe tub was also found while this was under constructions and it was laid in this room which has a nice finishing of marble , and gives a great recall of history
A must see review is most generous and we hope you continue to enjoy the special charm that is Galle Fort Hotel when next you visit us.
