This place was so disappointing! It looked great from the outside but when we came in service was terrible, the place was empty and the waiters were all sitting around in a gang and kept looking at us, speaking in Sri Lankan and laughing! I was going to get up and leave but we said we would give it a go so ordered the fish, they had no fish so suggested the prawn wrap! It was so gross, stale bread, cabbage was not washed and when I bit it it was full of dirt! Prawn rubbery overcooked and the intestinal trail wasn't cleaned out! I couldn't even eat it!

The court yard setting would make anything taste good, but the food and juices here are way above average and the menu has something for every taste.

We were wandering in Galle Fort looking for somewhere to have dinner after watching the beautiful sunset from the ramparts and we came upon this restaurant which looked very appealing from the street. It was early evening so they weren't particularly busy and we got a nice table near the central courtyard of the restaurant. As it is totally open there is no air-con so it is important to get a seat near one of the ceiling fans. The service was a little bit slow as the restaurant filled up quickly but once food was ordered it came within 10- 15 minutes, which is acceptable. The food we ordered was good and not too expensive with fairly good sized portions. All in all a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere of Galle Fort.

We had a very much better meal in the Heritage Café than the previous night. The Sri Lankan rice and curry was very good, plentiful and cheap. The stir fried vegetables dish with rice was excellent. The surroundings were also very nice, so much better than some of the small alternative places. We returned to eat for a second night and the food was just as good.

We went into the LaVazza coffee shop and wanted to order food, somehow got directed to Heritage Cafe, connected but a different menu--with more choices but higher prices. My avocado prawn salad was the fourth prawn dish I have had in Galle and definitely the worst--tiny little prawns with almost no flavor. And not much food for a hefty price. My husband's chicken fried rice was ok, but again pretty spendy for what he got. It was intriguing to us though--a whole shelf of Dr. Seuss books and a few Berenstein Bears books too. There must be a U.S. connection somewhere.
