We came to Jeju to attend the WONCA Family Doctors convention, together with my parents 75 and 69 years old respectively. Shilla Hotel was one of the designated hotel and its our home from May 23-27, 2012.
We reached the hotel using the Airport Limousine Bus that travelled 1 hour from the Jeju Airport and its interval was every 15minutes, so when its our time to go we also used it when we go to the airport to go to Seoul , its very convenient.
The Hotel staffs were very friendly and helpful and they tried their best to speak in English and accomodate our requests. We arrived very late at past 10 in the evening and the hotel restaurants were already closed by then so no choice we resorted to room service. The room service was prompt and the guy was very respectful and helpful and the food was delicious, salmon roe and salmon, Grilled Angus beef, assorted vegetable salad, and mushroom soup.
The room we got is twin sharing with one queen size good for my parents and one single bed for myself. The balcony of our room was facing the sea, the grand staircase leading to the outdoor swimming pool that looked like a scene from Hawaii with palm trees around it, can also see the paths leading to the camping site, the winery, the observatories, the garden and the out door entertainmetn stage and bar.
The room is spacious and clean and the toilet is big enough with toilettries. The location of our room is in the 5th floor, its along the location of the lobby, so its very cpnvenient for us.The lobby has a lounge with a grand piano and usually in the evening there will be opera singers belting out Italian songs in sopranos and tenors, there's a restaurant and a mini bakery as well, the hotel souvenir shops also in the lobby.
The basement has a grand staircase leading to it, with the three restos A japanese, Korean and an Italian one, the basement also has the grand piano and a pianist and violist playing there usually around 4 or 5PM. The nice touch was the bridge over the manmade stream that separates the Japanese and Korean resto.
The outdoor is superb, I really enjoyed exploring the winery, the path leading to the Jungmun Beach which by the way was a no mean feat as its a long ang winding wooden staircase amidst the trees, the vines, the shrubs and the lovely flowere, there were 2 or 3 observatoris looking over the sea, the rock formations and other hotels. There was a camping site and a minigarden of variety of Korean plants and some cages for the chickens, rabbits, turtles, squirrels. The paths and the view was simply spectacular. It made you be one one with nature. There was a small garden with 2 Dolhareubang (rock grandfather statues) guardsing it, the soil is red and there was a wooden swing for couples, and the atmosphere was just romantic. Explored the whole place both during daytime and nightime with my parents, warning though, the place is so vast,my parents knees nearly surrendered but we made it through.'They also have horse drwan carriage that has LED light s around it and they will just tour you around the vicinity.
The location of the hotel was also near to some of the tourist attractions, the Teddy Bear museum, The Chocolate Museum, the Sound Museum and the other nearby Hotels which was also has a very amgnificent outdoors. But if you want to visit other places like Seonsang Illchubong, Seopsikoji, Jeju Folk Village, etc you can asked the hotel staffs to make arrangement for you as there were taxis that will bring you to these places at a fixed price, they will just bring you ther then wait for you at the parking lot then go off again to your next destination.
This is my second time in Jeju, how I wished I stayed in this hotel the first time.
