In the interest of full disclosure, this hotel was chosen by Priceline with an on-line bid, which may color the availability of certain rooms.
We arrived at check-in time and found that the Priceline room was a two-double room. We prefer king, so we asked if an upgrade was available, and found that a king suite was, for an added charge of $25 a night, which brought the total charge to $155 a night, plus taxes, tariffs, and fees...which is pretty steep for a Comfort Inn, we thought. In fairness, it was apparently the week when parents and students are moving back to the local colleges, and the freshmen are being oriented, so just about every hotel was filled to capacity, or nearly so. This hotel is located across the street from one of the largest shopping malls in the area, which makes it convenient for bargain hunters.
The king suite consists of a small foyer area with a sofa-bed and small "kitchen" area with microwave and apartment 'fridge, as well as a small sink and one of those stupid single cup coffeemakers that use the packets of coffee (which make it impossible to adjust the strength of the brew to personal preference). The complimentary coffee was a good brand, however. Beyond the foyer is the bed in a typical hotel set-up. The flat-screen TV is hard-mounted to the wall, which leads to my two real complaints about the room...since it's hard-mounted, it can't be pivoted so that it can be viewed from the sofa in the small foyer, and in an apparent effort to keep people from screwing up the picture (and needing hotel personnel to straighten it out), the aspect ratio is set to "wide" and cannot be changed by the user. This means that the people in programs broadcast in standard definition are always short and fat, while programs broadcast in HD are expanded so that part of the picture is lost off the edges of the screen. VERY annoying!!!
The bed was clean and comfortable, with the exception that the bedspread/comforter offended my partner's sensibilities...she thought it was unacceptably stained and dirty. Unlike so many properties, in which a slab of concrete is considered to be an acceptable mattress, this mattress was actually flexible, but firm enough to minimize disturbance to one's sleeping partner with changing positions and midnight snack forays.
The bathroom was basically clean, and a real plus was that the towels were soft, not the scratchy pieces of cloth found in so many hotels. One thing I did notice was that, while the room itself was quiet, noises from other bathrooms nearby were transmitted almost unattenuated into our bathroom...one should keep that in mind when using one's own bathroom. On the good side, the light and fan were n separate switches, removing the need to activate a howling exhaust fan when Nature calls in the wee hours.
The refrigerator was set to the "Antarctica in winter" setting, which we didn't realize until we tried to use our milk and soft drinks the next morning. We adjusted it and it was fine after that.
Breakfast was free, and was substantial enough to assuage morning hunger, if not qualified as gourmet. The usual cereals were in evidence, as were peaches and apples, juices, coffee (flavored, plain, and decaf), several kinds of yogurt, toast, bagels, and a couple of waffle makers. Hot food was pre-formed egg rounds and sausage patties that could be made into relatively tasty breakfast sandwiches using the available English muffins.
Nitpicking aside, it was, all in all, a pleasant stay...which helped to mitigate some of the pain induced by the price. I'd stay there again, but I'd like to see a better price.
