Owner description: This archaeological site of an ancient fortress town has revealed more than 20 layers of ruins, ranging in time from the Neolithic Period (7000 BC) to the end of the Persian Period (332 BC).

The Hebrew words Har Megiddo are where we get the word Armageddon - a har is a range of hills. A tel is a mound of a city built upon city and it gets narrower the further up you go. Megiddo is located on a tel. The stables there were interesting (dating from the time of King Ahab). The water tunnel was neat, but short. Make sure to wear a hat and carry water...there's not a lot of shade. Much of the site was wheelchair accessible.

Keeping in mind that there are approx 300 steps, it is a must visit if you any interest at all in the Bible. The water tunnel is a must. Supplementing this visit, read "The Source" by James Michener

Tel Megiddo, a man-made, archeological mound, is like a 26-layer history cake that dates back to the Bronze Age. The site was highly prized--and fought over--by kings throughout the centuries because of its position on the ancient trade route connecting ancient Egypt and Assyria. As you climb through the excavations on the hill, you end up at the stables of King Solomon. From the the top, you view the lush Megiddo Valley, or Valley of Armageddon, which Revelation describes as the greatest and final of all wars.

Megiddo was destroyed and rebuilt at least 26 times. It overlooks the beautiful and fertile Jezreel Valley, also known as Har-megeddon (Armegeddon). Its long history and strategic location can lead to a lot of reasonable speculation such as Abram (Abraham) may have stopped here.

A place of many wars, one cannot help but to think of the great battle of Revelation 16:16.

Not much to see here. What there is is very interesting. Seems like a lot more excavation is required. If you have time you should stop and check it out.
