“Hotel With A "Can Do" Spirit”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

Upon checking into the Grand Inna Muara hotel, I noticed that it was spacious, clean, and bright. The hotel staff were young but with a positive attitude.

My room was typically clean and comfortable, however, the shower was broken and I was forced to wash up under the faucet my first evening.

Fortunately, while having breakfast the next morning, I was approached by the guest relations manager and asked how breakfast was. I told her it was good (not as much variety as other hotel breakfast buffets and the baked goods, especially the croissants, were less than average). Then, she asked me if I was experiencing any problems with my stay whereupon I told her about my problem with the shower. She asked me to fill out a guest review form and describe my problem there. I thought it was a bit strange as she could have easily taken down notes and immediately reported it to maintenance and engineering but I complied.

To my surprise, the problem was fixed by the time I returned to my room that evening. In sharp contrast to some other hotel experiences, this hotel has a can do spirit and I recommend it to anyone who's looking for a legitimate three star hotel that is reasonably priced.

Stayed here for just one night on a business trip. Arrived late evening and left early next morning. For that purpose the hotel was ok. If you are going to spend a few days in Padang or are in need of (even some modest) luxury, find another hotel.
The room was spacious and clean, but pretty soulless. Decent bed and an ok bathroom. So if that is all you look for, you get a decent deal at 50US$ a night.
For longer stays, the place is boring and has indeed the looks of a hospital with its large, virgin white corridors. You have a TV in the room, but the thing transported me back to the early seventies of the previous century. The snowy interference in the picture reminded me of watching TV at my grandmother's house as a kid. You have a minibar in the room but it is empty. There is wifi in the room. The receptionist warned me it was quite slow. As it turned out, that was the understatement of the day! Don't even bother to try using it.
Soem of my colleagues stayed at the Mercure. From what I heard it was quite good. Next time in Padang I will try that one out.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high a level as possible and at the opposite side of the bar. Hopefully that spare...

Stayed for one night on a business trip. Location is good, close to the seaside. Bed quality was decent. Shower was good and hot. That's about it.
As far as I understand it used to be an old hotel. It is renovated now...but nothing they could do about the layout...it is a corridor system which resembles a hospital (as one of my colleagues pointed out) The major downside is that the noise from the lobby (band performing live) gets channeled and amplified straight to your room. In the room you could not switch off the light at the entrance...very annoying at the middle of the night. Breakfast whilst provides a choice looks unappealing.
Okay for one night stay, but I would try other hotels for longer than that.
